It will be interesting to see how the rise in obesity affects the average life span in the next 30-50 years.

What is it that will make one animal live longer than another.

I am more focused on the deterioration of the bodies functions than any outside variables such as predators, unhealthy diet, lack of medical care.

Why do some mammal's that weigh around the same as us die off in captivity much sooner than we do? Even under great care.

How come smaller animals such as cats or dogs go through a faster life cycle?

The snopes article gives reasons why that sort of story is often faked, but it doesn't rule out the idea that it might have been true once. Any faith in doctor/ patient confidentiallity ignores the fact that doctors are human too.

Frozen hot dogs? I've never heard of that before.

Can't they just pour some warm water on it? Or is it not quite the same as getting your tongue stuck to a popsickle?

I kid you not... happened to a girl in another high school.

Apparently she accidentally broke off some pieces that she couldn't get out and the rest is history.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the essential:

Don't cook bacon while not wearing pants.

Don't spit into the wind.

 

And as for Sequence's advice about the refrigerator, I guess the same applies to cleaning the house. A couple of years ago, I read that a surprising number of men are hospitalized for things getting stuck in the vacuum cleaner hose. Nearly all of them claimed that they had been cleaning the house nude.

 

Riiight...

If women don't ask questions about vacuum related accidents with men we will look the other way when it comes to the "stuck" frozen hot dogs.

I can't even win when I play SimCity, there's no way I'd want to be responsible for running an entire world.

 

People always complaining to me about global warming, disease epidemics, famines, resource management, civil rights issues, cultural frictions, etc...

 

I'd rather just nuke the planet.

haha... ya I was a bad mayor when I use to play that.

People were complaining because there was no running water or power in some spots... cry babies.

I saw your other thread in Genetics, a good rule for forums is try not to create multiple threads . If there's something like this, where you want to introduce yourself to people on the whole (i.e. you do not want to post in one specific place) then the General Discussion forum is a good place to go.

This is my first post on the science forums. I think it's wonderful that I now have somewhere to discuss science related topics in a forum designed for such a thing.

I posted here first as I will probably do most of my posting here and in the genetics forum.

I am relatively new to learning about Astronomy and Cosmology. I am reading through Carl Sagan's books as well as Stephen Hawkings.

Loving every moment of it.

I am probably by far not the most knowledgeable person here but I will do my best to learn, discuss and maybe even teach at some point when I get more comfortable.
