  1. You can only define the center of the universe in relation to other objects' date=' so, depending on your inertial frame when the universe began, you would see it as a different place.

    You see?

(Sorry I haven't done an overall guide to SR, I've been rather busy lately with university things)[/quote']

Yes, I fully understand that concept but..

    Well try this.

Imagine a snooker table with a large board straight down the middle but a gap underneath for the balls to pass through.

As the player looks along the left side of the table so he can't see the balls on the right but his opponent can he makes his break. The balls now fly off in all directions.

The opponent sees the black ball go down but the player who just broke didn't. The black ball still went down the hole at the same time regardless of which player could see what.

So there are two variations of now.

The now when the opponent saw the black ball go down and the now when the other player found out it had gone down.

That's all I'm trying to say...

  2. MS' date='

Listen up, there`s No clique, and it WON`T show up because I deleted it, as I have with the above post.

it WAS NOT an excuse to re-post the original garbage!

You`re lucky the person in question hasn`t read any of it, because so sure as they`re offended by it, You`re History![/quote']

That's what I meant in the post you just deleted.

I don't mind her taking a dislike to me if there's a chance she can start to enjoy life again.

So far today I've been called a fool for not understanding something clearly enough then in another thread, being smug because I tried to put something forwards that might help some people.

BTW I took offence to being called a fool.

  3. Will you have different output result if you compile the source code on different OS?? (but using same hardware)

    if so

    how?

The progress report as the comiler and linker build the project will probably be different.

The size of the executable will probably be different too.

The machine code instructions might/probably be different too, different compilers sometimes do things differently.

  4. If you knew an OO programming language...Let's say Java

Whenever you are programming' date=' you always use the jdk doc, especially its api

but since it is quite a big doc, how can you know where you can find the best class to make an object for a better function??

Secondly, if you are programming big, how do you apply UML? do you just draw the diagrams your self???

By the way, finally we'd have alot of .class files... I have seen people made them in just one *.exe file, how is it possible??

    Albert[/quote']

    It's been a while since I used Java, I'm a C++ user.

When you're looking for a class to inherit from it's as simple as looking for the one with the most useful behaviour that you need. Since you're still learning you'll make mistakes but you'll learn the ins/outs of other classes and know how to use those in the future.

There are sometimes several classes you can inherit from and they'll each do the job nicely.

As for building a Java project into a .exe there are linkers that can do that. Check some Java programming sites with programming utility applications on them.

I used to use Java++ which I'm pretty certain can create .exe files.

  5. And once again, False Dilemma solved everyone's problems.

I assume I'm the problem and you're referring to the fact that I'm solving everyone's problems by leaving because I sometimes struggle comprehending something, which makes me a fool. Or when I do understand something and try to help someone I'm being smug.

What is the point in having public forums if people aren't allowed to be foolish enough to ask questions??

If you want my opinion.. I'd be a bigger fool for not asking in the first place!!

  6. Your saying that the bigger you are the less you know about physics? How ironic that you are arguing with MrL.

My comment' date=' no matter how oblique it may seem to you, was that you are happily skipping over the logic that has been repeatedly presented to you by rather well qualified physists.

    It's boring.

    You bore me.

    *Yawn*[/quote']

    Okay, I give in.

Seeing as the thing I have a problem comprehending hasn't been explained in a way that I can understand I'll leave these forums, perhaps everyone else in the world who doesn't understand something when they first encounter it should stop asking questions about whatever subject it is, yourself included.

  7. Why' date=' in the sweet name of zombie Jesus, do you think that random spewing of hippie trance theories will help someone with [i']panic attacks[/i]?

At the very least don't sit there and smugly drool that you don't have a problem. Just because it dosn't effect you does not mean people should be more like you.

Nice articulate way of publicly debunking someones ideas.

  8. Make sense, you fool.

You just come bursting into a thread and make a one word post containing "What?" with no reference to what you're asking for clarification about so for a laugh I make a reply that makes about as much sense as your post did.. Now you come along and accuse me of being a fool.

I suppose you're right, I suppose I am a fool but you're the guy that I'm talking about above.

BTW would you do me a really big favour please, go and find a really big nasty bloke and ask him if he understands all this, when he says no call him a fool so he can kick the shit out of you for me.

  9. An observer moving relative to you will not agree that Mars is where you say it is. Things are not in the same state for everyone. Only in your reference frame.

Forget about people observing things. Regardless of whether anyone can see an object or not it is still where it is in relation to everything else at any one given moment in time.

If there's a tree falling in a forest right now and there's no one there to see or hear it, it's still falling to the floor right now.

I fully understand that if you were on Venus that Mars will appear to be in a different place to us on Earth but that's only where it appears to be.

What if we discovered how to create wormholes??

Say we could direct a wormhole instantaniously to any place on any planet, we wouldn't be interested in where it appears to be now we'd be interested in where it physically is right now when we open the wormhole.

  10. Have you ever tried self hypnosis??

I work nights and the daytime noises either physically increased or I just started noticing them a few months ago, I also suffer from tinnitus which got worse, leaving me thinking it was stress caused by my financial situation that's still not resolved. So I turned to self hypnosis and cured myself. I can now sleep for hours on end through the daytime and I can hardly hear my tinnitus.

I put myself in a mild trance and keep telling my sub conscious "That noise is background noise, there's nothing I can do about it, it's totally out of my control so I might as well ignore it and get on with the task at hand."

Think about when you were last at home or in a pub and you're involved in a deeply engrossing conversation with someone, don't notice what's being said on the TV or if you're in a pub you ignore the noise around you. It just becomes background noise that you ignore.

And to get into that trance here's a very simple exercise you can all do.

I'll assume there's some background noise in the room you're in right now, I've got the fans in my PC whirring away right now. Find a similar sound and listen to it for a while..

Now sit back, close your eyes and relax for a while, spend a minute or two thinking about a time when you were having an engrossing conversation with someone and there was a lot of noise around you but you ignored the noise and carried on...

Think about the last great film you watched or some other meaningful experience, rerun your memories of all that. When you come to the end of the memory you should notice you weren't paying any attention to the noise you were listening to at the start.

It isn't difficult once you realise just how easy it is because our brains are doing it all the time for us. The trick is to control when it does it for us.

It won't work for everyone because there may be other underlying reasons like a traumatic event from your past and your sub conscious is increasing the background events but it should work for a lot of people.

  11. You can't[/i'] stop time, so basing thought experiments around it is rather stupid.

    Nicely phrased...

Since you're incapable of explaining something to me with that scenario, I'll do something clever and rephrase it then.

At this very moment in time, right now (as I type this) you're where you are, I'm where I am, Mars is where it is, etc...

It might not be relevent to where everything else is and that now is my now and not your now because when you read this everything will have moved but everything was still at the position and in the same state for everyone. You were still where you where and I was still where I was.

  12. Except it is incorrect. You forgot that part.

So if you froze time for the entire universe NOW so everything stopped and went to visit everywhere/thing the position and states of those things will have changed, even though time for the entire universe was frozen??

  13. the confusion PROBABLY arrises from the definition of "Now"

I see it as an Absolute' date=' Now just IS.

I clap my hands and the whole universe stops in it`s tracks, maybe a star just goin Super Noava or 2 asteroids colliding etc...

THAT is the NOW I speak of, freeze everything and have a look around at these items, maybe a million light years away, doing what they were doing, THAT is NOW.

no matter how long it takes for the sound or the light to hit your eyes or ears (thats only a speed limitation) it`s certainly not the "NOW" :)[/quote']

I don't see anything wrong with any of that. Time for some magic.

If you could magically step outside the universe and clapped your magic hands that could freeze the entire universe in its tracks right now (at this whatever moment of time you're in right now), then look around inside it with a magic crystal ball you would see the entire universe frozen in the state of now. Earth would be here, Mars would be over there, the sun would be over there, etc..

Let's say I stood on the Sun with a ball and you stayed here with a ball. We used a magic radio (no 8 minute waiting time for signal travelling) one of us counted down to 0 then shouted "Now!" as a signal for us to both throw our balls into the air at the same moment in time, we would. So that's the conventional now we all use.

But if you then went and looked through a telescope you'd have to wait 8 minutes to see me throwing my ball into the air even though that happened 8 minutes ago. So if the Sun blew up 8 minutes ago and we're only just feeling the effects right now then it might as well have just blown up right now.

Whatever happened on the Sun 8 minutes ago is irrelevent until we can see or feel its effects here on Earth now.

The way I see it there are two nows, the conventional now and the now relative to you.

  14. MS' date=' I`ll see it and experience it differently to you, me behind the gun and you or whomever holding the melon.

if the trigger gets pulled at at 11:20:30 exactly, and the melon pops at 11:20:31 it still doesn`t change the time WHEN I pulled the trigger.

    that`s a constant, it was at 11:20:30

no matter when or how YOU experience it.

    it`s all subjective :)

you see the flash, the melon splosh then CRACK, I see flash hear crack then the melon evaporates, I may hear that sound bounce back too.

the fact is light or sound, both are finite in speed, but that shouldn`t detract from NOW[/quote']

    It doesn't detract from NOW.

If the sun blew up 8 minutes ago and we just start to see the effects right now it might as well have just blown up right now.

That wouldn't be the case if you were on a ship orbitting the sun at half the distance we are because they'd have blown up 4 minutes ago. So from their point of view (or relative to them compared to us) now was 4 minutes ago.

But with you yourself not being on that ship it's irrelevant.

The sun blowing up and it taking 8 minutes for us to feel the effects so it might as well have blown up right now, is about the simplest scenario I can come up with so if you can explain the confusion in that it might help.

  15. I don't understand what you're confused about YT...

From my point of view when you shoot my melon.

Cause - your itchy trigger finger. ;)

    Effects -

I see a flash from your gun, then my melon exploding along with a splosh sound, then the sound of the gun shot.

From your point of view you see the flash and hear the bang then see my melon exploding (and a splosh, if you've got good hearing).

I know that's rudimentary but what's there to cock up??

  16. here`s what I don`t understand' date=' I`m wearing a watch, and my watch is set to the exact same sime as a big clock, even the second hands are in synch.

now I move away from the big clock at light speed, the big clock will apear to have stopped, as I`m traveling at the same rate as the photons that bounced off the clock face with the time data in them.

but I look down at my wrist watch and my watch is working normaly.

I travel at this rate for 20 mins and return back to the big clock.

Surely both would be back in perfect Synch again, telling the same time.

because both clock and watch were operating at the same rate, and the fact that it appeared to stop when moving was only a illusion created by seeing the same photons with the clock face information in them for 20 mins.[/quote']

I'm not sure how much this will help but here we go...

Visualise two mirrors facing each other, travelling through space along parallel lines. There's a single photon of light bouncing between those mirrors.

When the mirrors are stationary the photon just bounces up and down.

When the mirrors start moving the photon doesn't just bounce up and down it has to travel forwards with the mirrors.

So as you trace the path of the photon viewing it from the side it's making an up/down "zig zag" line. So the photon's having to travel that extra distance compared to the mirrors.

Think of yourself walking along a quiet road, as you move along you bounce yourself off the kerbs to the other kerb (maybe you've been drinking, again ;) ). It's going to take you longer to walk to the end of the road than it would going constantly straight forwards.

I'm not 100% clear on this next bit myself but..

So for moving objects travelling faster means they have to travel that extra diagonal distance too.

I don't know the quantum mechanics of it but I would assume that as electrons orbit the nucleas of the atom they have to travel that extra distance like the photon does.

  17. reporting bullies makes them want to stab you even more.

and if they don't know who reported them' date=' they'll just go to the person they bully the most often.

also, authorities won't do anything. 1/4th of authorities will simply say "just ignore them". 1/4th will say "you should talk to them about your feelings". 1/4th will say "i'll talk to them about it". 1/5th will say "what, are you a tattle-tail?". the remaining 1/20th has a chance to take the kid into custody temporarily, and/or talk to their parents. about 90% of that ends up hurting the kid, a lot.

and also, would you have your kid be tormented constantly through school, always being called a "tattle-tail" until driven into madness?[/quote']

There are right and wrong ways of doing it.

For a start off nobody needs to know other than the teacher s/he tells and they don't even have to do it covertly. If a few went and reported the bullies behaviour it would be even more effective.

why would anyone ever make a square wheel? if anyone where to try to make a wheel, they would have, at the very least, a basic concept of physics, or they would never have wanted to make a wheel. a basic concept of physics is all that's necessary to realize that a square wheel would never work, ever. just drop some rocks and they'll learn that square wheels won't work.

and it's 1000 times better to tell everyone WHY square wheels won't work than to simply tell everyone THAT square wheels won't work.

I was using square wheels as metaphors for going right back to the start with each generation so they have to learn through the same mistakes we did.

And you're right, it is 1,000 times better to tell everyone why square wheels don't work instead of just telling them they don't work. So it's better to prevent kids bullying each other by telling them why it's wrong and alter their behaviour rather than forcing them figure it out for themselves.

  18. How can it be possible to have multiple universes???

Imagine throwing a simple pack of cards into the air' date=' the amount of different spins and flips each of the 52 cards could encounter and how they could fall to the ground. With what can be formed with a single deck like this, think of all the events that happen across one country, one world and our universe.

Even infinity itself could not substantiate the number of universes that would exist, and with the energies existing in one universe, it would be so volatile.

    [/quote']

There are many kinds of multiverses though. Parallel ones where for every possible outcome a new universe is created is something I can't accept either.

Multiple big bangs in the void/nothingness could have happened, creating seperate universes. This is brane theory, where each universe exists on its own membrane, in its own dimensional pocket of the void/nothingness.

Some believe matter and energy entering a black hole spews out into another universe as large as the matter and energy it's devoured.

They could just as easily act like energy storage devices though, maybe having a miniverse in them is just a by product. Maybe our universe is inside a black hole right now..

There are other theories but I've never bothered looking into them, too much to comprehend about this one for now. ;)

  19. I'd like to see a list of negative behaviour patterns.

    Is fear a negative behaviour??

I'm afraid of public speaking, obviously that's negative.

I'm also afraid of being eaten by sharks, falling off cliffs, being shot by criminals etc... I believe those to be positive behaviour patterns all based on fear.

So you can't block fear completely.

Is attraction is a positve behaviour??

Obviously it is because I'm attracted to the opposite sex. Being "gay" wouldn't be negative because that would mean I'm attracted to the same sex and still a positive behaviour because I don't end up growing old all alone...

But I'm attracted to cigarettes, this is a negative behaviour..

I don't see how a chemical additive to my brain could be clever enough to figure out which is positive and which is negative. I'm a smoker, obviously I'm clever enough to realise how insane that behaviour is but I still smoke. I can understand some of Einsteins theories and I still can't decide which is negative and positive.... ;)

IMO it would be better to increase rational thought processes so people could think clearer and see what is negative and positive behaviour.

  20. So it's better for every generation to go back to looking at their square wheels and wondering why they don't work quite like they expected??

We've learned from our mistakes, why can't we teach our children the knowledge we've gained from those mistakes??

If we can do it with things from square wheels being wrong up to murder being wrong why can we not do it with the things inbetween...

There's no way around the fact that in teaching our children to stand up to bullies themselves that there's a chance there could be serious consequences for those children. If myself and a group of neighbours approached the scrotes (technical term for nasty scum bag type people ;) ) who live down the street and we all force them to move home, I wouldn't be surprised if those scrotes took it upon themselves to seek vengence, petrol bombing those who forced them to move... Taking that action against those scrotes is a gamble over whether they will seek vengence or not. I can remove that gamble from the equation by reporting them to the authorities and getting them sorted out that way. With no come back to myself or my property.

If I decide to take that action then it's my decision, it's my property and my life I'm gambling with.

You're telling your kids to go and stand up to bullies themselves.

So you're willing to let your kids take a gamble on whether they'll get picked on even more after standing up to them, what if that involves them getting stabbed or beaten severely??

Isn't it more sensible to tell them the right way to report the bullies to the teachers so there's no chance of any come back to them??

  21. You Said:

"And how much will we have to pay these people to build these shield systems that we have no idea how much the parts will even cost when we're flying about out there amongst the stars"

I`ve no idea at all and it`s a moot point.

So we can say system X will be too expensive' date=' even though we've no idea how expensive will be in 50 or 100 years time.

And you went on to say:

"Are you certain people refuse to work for free and always will refuse to work for free?? If you are, then get us the lottery numbers for next week whilst you're "out there"

I`m more than certain that`s the case! well unless you count Slavery, but then they`re working for their very lives, so no.... I`m still certain! :)

Come on YT, delve into that pool of knowledge I know you have and look for another work force that we'll probably have in 50 to 100 years, a work force that will work for free...

  22. I guess because Ultimately that`s exactly what it`ll come down to in the long run, people refuse to work for free.

And how much will we have to pay these people to build these shield systems that we have no idea how much the parts will even cost when we're flying about out there amongst the stars.

For all any of us know it might only cost 500 quid (of todays money) to make an all purpose electromagnetic energy shield system.

We are discussing potential shield systems not the cost.

Are you certain people refuse to work for free and always will refuse to work for free?? If you are, then get us the lottery numbers for next week whilst you're "out there".
