I always thought that with Newton's understanding, he would have stated it more like
"an object's motion remains constant unless acted upon by some force." Since it seems
that it must have been clear to him that "everything" is in motion, there is nothing we
know of that is "at rest".

Hi, I'm Gary, a 67 year old IT (Sun/unix) guy. Started out as an engineering tech, making the
stuff engineers designed work.
I refer to myself here as "questioning_the_theory" because I find myself questioning either
the premise, the phrasing, or the substance of many "chiseled in stone" facts.
I will try not to offend with my submissions.
