  1. Programs that evolve on their own are the only conceivable way of having AI which is more intelligent than humans
  2. The brain would die at the end of its lifetime whether it was in a biological body or robotic body. The reactivity of oxygen is what causes death by old age. The very nutrient that keeps us going is what eventually makes our cells pack in. Hence it doesn't matter what kind of body supplies oxygen (and other nutrients) to the brain it would still die anyway.
  3. The force of tension acts right to left and is the difference between the pulling force and the resistance forces (air resistance and friction). I dont know what country you're in but in the UK you get taught this if you continue doing physics or maths after you're 16. I'm not certain what your refering to when you say normal force, but in your scenario, the only normal forces are the force of tension which will act in the direction of the rope (towards the box), and those up from the ground against you and the box.
  4. You have to be pretty full of yourself to think that humans are above evolution just because we're smarter than everything else. We may be able to manipulate how we evolve in some ways, but we are still governed by our environment. Also, defining evolution as a 1% change in genetic makeup is stupid as implies that any organism with less than that 1% difference would be considered the same. There'd only be one type of monkey and one type of pine tree etc. Evolutions is far to delicate to de defined with such a solid border.
  5. Does that mean the cloud will eventually dissapate until its evenly diffused, or will its own gravity keep it in cloud form?
  6. Is liquid plasma theoretically possible? Are liquids to dense for the component atoms to be ionised or will the temperature cause the liquid to become gaseous anyway? If mercury vapor can become plasma at room temperature under a electric current then maybe a liquid could under similar circumstances? I'm sorry if the post sounds stupid to physicists who know their stuff, but the thought intrigued me.
  7. first one: An object dropped down a tube to the centre of the earth would stop at the centre as the gravity sums to zero there. second one: In the boulder pushing analogy there is loads of work done. The boulder may not move but your muscles will contract and your tendons will stretch etc. This is all movement in the direction of the force and hence the value for work will not be zero. thrid one: It only takes effort for us to hang from a cliff because we have to keep our muscles tensed and out of their relaxed state. A crash test dummy with hooks for fingers could hang indefintely without using any energy. fourth part: Light is a wave not an object. Newtonian mechanics dont apply to waves. He wants them to. fifth part: don't know anything about that one sixth one: I think its reasonable to suggest that this guy has no idea how atomic clocks actually work or how they are built seventh one: don't know anything about that one His final comment: This guy is an idiot, but dont underestimate the power of the stupid. Look at George Bush
