  1. Sorry, but here's a bit of problem. ;x The guy could have been running an IP spoofer. I know some that run 20-120 dollars, and you can use them to change your IP on the internet. (Or at least mask it.) One way to know if you've been hacked is this. On XP, go to Start<Run<then type Command, and then type Net Statistics Server. Now, look at "Sessions Accepted" If it says "1" you should be okay. If it says 2 or more "OMG U GOT H4X0R3D". (Or at least your PC was.) Seriously, it should only say 1. Everything else should probably be 0. (there are exceptions to this, but it does help.)

    My computer is in this superb condition.

  2. Hi everyone.

    I want to inert a program in my portable calculator, a small one.

    Particularly, I want to use it to find the roots of equations with a degree as high as 4, involving trigonometry.

    In fact, there are many programs I can choose but I have no idea which gives me the answer the fastest.

    Iteration Method/False Position Method, or Regula Falsi/Secant Method/Iteration Method/ Newton's Method.

  3. Why use such difficult to handle, expensive and toxic reagents if you also can accomplish it with simple HCl and NaOH? You also add lots of other impurities, such as lead and nitrate, which also are hard to remove completely. Lead chloride is sparingly soluble, not insoluble.

    Mine is a poor idea.

  4. I thought of getting out the sulphate by adding excess lead(II) nitrate.

    Then, add excess con. HCl to remove the lead(II) ion.

    And then, for the iron(II) ion, bubble chlorine gas into it.

    Lastly, to remove the nitrate ion, adding excess hydroxide into it.

    Due to the redox reaction, nitrate is reduced to nitrogen dioxide.

    But I am not sure whether it is correct.

    Probably not as chlorine forms hypochlorite ion and not all nitrate could be removed completely.

  5. We get energy from burning fossil fuels.

    The power 50 W we could get is fixed.

    P=IV.

    We just supply the electrical energy produced to a complete circuit which connects with a light bulb of resistance 10 ohms.

    We apply the initial EMF as 240k V as high as the power station used to apply.

    By P=IV, I=1/(240k).

    Now,a current I=1/240k is flowing through the bulb.

    Using P=I^2R, P used up by bulb is not equal to the one from burning fossil fuels.

    Why?

  6. In post #6, I assume that "a substance" is an appliance of unknown resistance, in series with a bulb of unknow resistance, in which case, you'd have to measure the total circuit current, and the voltage drop across one device, to determine the power consumption of each device.

    And swansont, sorry please assume light bulb's resistance is relative a constant/

    The current is fixed as we fix the emf.

    So, how does the resistor affect the circuit?

  7. Another such an example is adding ethanol to some solid and fairly finely divided CrO3. The ethanol inflames on contact with the CrO3. A similar thing happens with Mn2O7.

    Is it possible to burn in the process of making ethanoic acid by acidified potassium dichromate?

    Moreover, is only the vapour responsible for burning?

  8. Here's a simplified question and my question 2.

    I hope you guy may neglect the original one.

    In a complete circuit, a substance is providing energy at a fixed rate, say P.

    A light bulb of resistance R is connected in series.

    P=VI,

    We apply a desired voltage V1.( like the case generated by a transformer)

    Now, what's power consumed by the bulb.

    I found that I couldn't use V=IR.

    Please help me.
