  1. I think I solved 2.b) Vf^2=Vi^2+2ad ---> 6.6^2=5^2+2a ---> 43.56=25+2a ---> 18.56/2 ---> a=9.28m/s^2 Does that looks right? Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged Yeah I have a booklet here it's just applying the formulas gets tricky for me. I haven't got a text book yet for better explanations on things. 1. a) a= -1.2m/s^2 b) V at 3s = 10.8m/s c) average Velocity = 3.6m/s d) distance covered in 5th second = 18m No idea if they are right... just need confirmation.
  2. Having problems with solving a few of these questions and some help which would be much appreciated. 1. A speed skater reduces her velocity from 12m/sec to 6m/sec in 5 seconds. Find: a) acceleration b) velocity at the end of the third second c) average velocity d) distance covered during the 5th second period I found acceleration to be -1.2m/s^2 but I'm having trouble finding the distance traveled to work out velocity and the rest from there... 2. A sprinter covers the first 10 meters of a 100m dash in 2 seconds and the second 10 meters in 1.5 seconds. Find: a) average velocities over the 0-10m and the 10-20m segments of the race. ok so 0-10m v= 5m/s and 10-20m v= 6.6m/s b) the acceleration between the first velocity and second velocity. this is where I'm doing something wrong because I did 6.6-5/1.5-2 and I get -0.93 which is obviously wrong because the sprinter was not slowing down. 4. A ball is accelerating at 18m/s^2. The final velocity measurement used to determine the acceleration was 31m/s and the time was 0.42sec. What was the initial velocity of the ball at the start of the time interval? Don't know how to find the initial velocity. 5. A sprint ice skater travels North at a 14m/sec, she must travel 100 meters to the North to complete the race. A cross wind blowing directly West at a constant 3m/s pushes the skater off course. If she does not correct for the wind: a) how far off her Northerly path will she be blown? b) How much extra distance must she cover to complete the race? Again not sure about this problem. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedAnyone?.. I figured out q.3 with the formula d=Vi.t+1/2a.t^2 so don't worry about that one. Still need help with the rest. Thanks
  3. Thanks for the feedback. How should that part be written? in my notes it only has F=m.a2 (the 2 is a negative power - I don't understand that part) Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged Yeah not that much detail, just a constant speed.
  4. I'm totally new to learning physics and was presented with this problem but the answer was never recorded during the lecture so I'm just checking on here if I solved it correctly or what went wrong.. "On the Monark Bike - What is the force required to determine a power output of 100W when pedaling at 50rpm?" 20N = 4kg x 5m/sec 100W = 6000J / 60sec *just to note 1 revolution of the pedals will move the bike 6m
  5. Thanks, I checked the preview on amazon and looks great. As to the type of telescope I'm not sure yet either to be honest... I'll come back to that when I've done more work.
  6. I've just recently begun to learn about my fascination of astronomy and would like to know of some sources you would recommend me that are good for beginners. I just got a course from The Teaching Company called 'Understanding the Universe: An Introduction to Astronomy, 2nd Edition' (http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/CourseDescLong2.aspx?cid=1810) which is a series of 96 lectures - so that should keep me busy for some time. I also want to get a telescope later in the year so if you guys could recommend something that is good that would be great. I was looking through some on ebay which were about $300-400 but since I don't know what to look for exactly, I don't want to buy crap. Thanks in advance.
  7. lol nah, not if you mean predators. Immune system is protection against pathogens and foreign bodies.
  8. I dont think i will ever get vista - maybe wait it out until 2010 and get Windows 7
  9. Don't reinstall vista then, you can get xp for real cheap if you decide to buy it and support microsoft... or you can get it by other means. At least you won't have to deal with these problems.
  10. Not possible without a flux capacitor.
  11. Exactly! it is unnecessary to memorise everything but rather understand how and why things happen for a reason. Edit - Re: biology
  12. Pretty much everything has non-specific immunity.
  13. It's very much personal preference. For me from easiest to hardest... Biology, Chemistry, Physics. This is mainly because maths is my weakness, other people could have opposite order..
  14. Very good topic, I'm keen to hear some good replies.
