  1. Yup, that's how I remember it as well. If you want to read more, check UniProt: http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/?query=gp120&sort=score
  2. Waiting for my "Introduction to molecular medicine" to arrive.

    Hemophilia

Uhm... I may be wrong here, but unless there's a chiasma - probably none? Since it's recessive, won't it need both x-chromosomes to have the hemophilia-A allele? And since the fathers's x-chromosome only carries the hemophilia-B allele (which is also recessive) there won't be a homozygote hemophilia-a or -b gene and therefore no hemophilia. That's just my assumption, though. As already said, I may be wrong. If this is a theoretical thought, I should mention that it's already pretty unlikely for a woman to be hemophilic to begin with. Both forms are x-linked and recessive, so if a woman is affected both of her sex-chromosomes have to carry the gene.
  4. I'm taking zinc supplements for a different reason and still get a cold from time to time. And why wouldn't I? Sounds like something homeopaths would come up with...
  5. That's mostly a muscular issue though, not a definite physical limitation. The nutrition hypothesis sounds too simple for me. There are also giant people in regions of the earth where the nutrition standards didn't really significantly improve in the last few hundred years. It's probably some genetic development/evolution, although I can't really find a reason why. But it sure is a very interesting topic, indeed.
  6. There is no single 'top biologist'. There are a lot of famous biologists that achieved groundbreaking and essential results such as Mendel, Watson or Crick. But you can't really name a number 1. Just check who won a noble prize in medicine and you'll find some great names. Except that one maybe, yeah
