  1. Environmental science is multi-disciplinary and it hovers between physical science and biological science. You can study the environment from a biologist's point of view as well as a physicist's point of view. Most universities (IMHO) would consider it to be a biology module. So picking it would not "jeopardize" your career :)

  2.

    Excuse me, What is this?!

Please do pay attention that OP is asking about creation of existence not evolution. (or I'm missing something here?)

You are probably missing something.. The first life that emerged were simple cells that were able to metabolize. This could have happened by chance because there was an ocean of chemical reactions on the earth then. With numerous reactions taking place simultaneously, it is not unbelievable that some reactions actually gave rise to the first cell. Then we all descended from them.

  3. As Mitochondria are the energy currency of the cell, they are definitely related to the ageing process of the living things. Mitochondria are organelles which have their own DNA. Mutations in the DNA of the mitochondria might be responsible for the loss in vigour. SO they are basically, a prokaryotic cell within a eukaryotic cell. They divide like a cell and are equally distributed to the daughter cells. So if a mutated mitochondria is passed to the daughter cells, it should not be a surprise.

  4. The DNA content in the samples are extracted and profiled. By 'profiled', I mean that the base sequence is identified. Then this base sequence is matched with the sequence of the person's/suspect's close family member. The familial DNA, if found close, the suspect is taken into custody and interrogated until the truth comes out. Simple to say, but very complex and accurate. rolleyes.gif

  5. Heat from the glass slab might have escaped from anywhere within it but the whole glass slab will always have the same temperature thanks to the uniform distribution of heat. It is impossible for a glass slab in the refrigerator to have different temperatures on different areas on it. rolleyes.gif

  6. I was wondering if the difference between mitosis and meiosis is where meiosis creates haploid gametes constantly from other cells by changing them into haploid for that gender and mitosis is really just the addition of the other set of sex chromosomes and dividing them into what we have...

What do you mean by 'other cells' ?

Simply said, Mitosis does maintains the ploidy in cell division whereas meiosis halves the ploidy. The processes are a little different where meiosis involves mitosis in later stages.

  7. if binary is to 2,

    then genetic is to ??

basically , if you boil down to the most basic building blocks of the genetic code.....how many are unique?

I think 4, because the most basic building blocks of genetic code are the nucleotides, the purines (2) and pyrimidines (2) - A, T, C, G which are made up of sugar and phosphate along with the nitrogen base. So if you add up, It will be -

    Sugars - Ribose + DeoxyRibose = 2

    Phosphate Group = 1

    Nitrogen Base = 5

    Total = 2+1+5=8

8 unique molecules are responsible for the entire genotype which cause the variations among all the species.

    Hope that helped. smile.gif
