  1. You must not be to college yet, as I remember homework being "we started to show you what you need to know in class, and this assignment is the way you're going to learn what you ACTUALLY need to know for the test."

We got LOTS of homework that forced us to go well beyond what was covered in class, and we were expected to understand it all before the next lecture (which is why teachers have office hours).

    Ah... good times.

Nah I've been in college for a few years. I was joking to an extent. But for me that is how every night of homework starts out.

  2. I just watched the Chemistry episode on HD (I guess that's a channel?) I don't have television at my apartment.. I was watching with my dad at his house.

Anyway, it was pretty entertaining. And nice to see Bill Nye again :P

I'm not sure what there is to disagree with except that 100 was way off.. unless they plan on having 10 more episodes on the same subject.

  3. A while back I sent an email to Kenneth Miller just letting him know I enjoyed Finding Darwin's God and how it really helped my relationship with my conservative christian family. He responded the next day with short appreciative message. I knew he's a busy guy and I'm just some bio student at FSU so It was pretty much what I had expected. I smiled and went on with my day.

This morning I checked my email and a NY Times reporter who's working on a story about science students and their faith (or lake thereof) had emailed me. She told me Kenneth Miller had given her my contact info during an interview. I'm nerding out like crazy right now :P

Edit: Oh yeah. She wanted to interview me for the article by the way.

  4. Have you listened to Kavinsky or Sebastian off of Ed Banger?

yeah, man. I'm a huge fan. There were a few days when I first got ed.rec.vol1 that I listened to H.A.L. by sebastian over and over and over again.

what do you like besides club/dance? I'm more of a chill ambient electronic fan myself.

  5. Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, Health.

Pretty much anything on the label Kitsune is good in my books and if I am really looking for a pick me up one of Diplo's mix tapes.

Same here. I just got crystal castles debut a few days after it was released. It's amazing. You like the Ed Banger guys? Justice etc?

I also like a lot of electronic stuff like Boards of Canada and many others.

  6. Now I'm just left wondering why they banned him from the theater in the first place. What were they expecting him to do, lob a grenade at the projector booth?

If I was as paranoid and uneducated as Mathis I wouldn't want Myers there for the Q&A either.

  7.

The only way that guy1 and guy2 can see more than one colour, but not know the colour of their own hat, is if the blind man is wearing a black hat and the other two are wearing red hats.

Unless the blind man is wearing a red hat and the other two are wearing black hats. They still see two colors and one red hat is missing so there's a chance they could be wearing it.

    ..I'm stumped.

  8.

After watching Kenneth Miller discuss the fusion of chromosome #2 I'm still wondering how this happened.. Did this "fusion" take place within an individual at some point in history and would this individual be able to mate with an individual who still had 48 chromosomes? I can't find anything online that explains it. Somebody please help me out :) thanks.

  9. Man I hate when people answer questions with questions :P

I wasn't looking for anyone to prove what I was saying. I just wanted to know what you guys think.

And yes I believe in the possibility that there are things that we don't yet understand and as of now are impossible to prove or disprove with science. That doesn't mean I believe they are true.

  10. I dont know if this is the right section but my idea/question has something to do with evolution so I just stuck it here..

I've been interested in buddhism for about a year and recently I've been thinking about reincarnation.

I hope this makes sense.. im not good with words. Does anyone think its possible that over time, advances in evolution constructed a device that could transmit what we call consciousness? I don't really believe that at the moment someone dies waves are tranmitted to some zygote somewhere. I believe in the possibility of some sort of shared consciousness.. does this make sense to anyone??

  11. Okay, every night when I lay in bed, when I'm still completely conscious I'll get a picture of something in my head.. almost always it's a sphere and it's spinning on an axis. Sometimes it's other things.. an image of myself on a plane thats spinning with me on the center, etc. I have to concentrate hard and by maintaining concentration I can keep the image still.. but my face starts to tense up and the area around my noes and under my eyes gets really hot. Does anyone have any idea what im talking about or familiar with anything like this?

  12. aside from all that' date=' im going to take another stab with 60 diamonds, 20 on the bottom, and 40 on the top ("twenty mo'" [i']than on the bottom[/i]. yet another example of the question only being answerable if you ignore improper english)

    That's what I was thinking.

  13. Vitamin D is also known to elict a "sneeze" reponse in the human body. This is why if someone who is kind of deficient in Vitamin D steps out into the sun they'll suddenly sneeze. (As the exposure of your skin to UV rays initiates the production of Vitamin D in your body).

More info? For me, if I feel like I'm going to sneeze but it just won't come out I either look towards the sun (not at it..) or I look at a lightbulb and it helps me to sneeze. That couldn't have anything to do with a vitamin d deficiency though.. Could squinting have anything to do with it..? I'll look into it.

  14. As cool as that particular disorder is, the "Indigo Children" are basically just a bunch of stuck up twerps who a bunch of New Age believers think are more advanced than normal people, whether in mind or spirit, rather than anything physical. People claimed to be of that particular delusion get their name because their auras are allegedly indigo as seen by folks claiming to be able to see such things.

    Agreed.
