  1. Well if the universe was still infinate it would work, and also be able to recurse too. but you could make a lot of processors even with a finite universe!
  2. I believe it would be theoreticly possibe to create a universe. If you have infinate processing power you could execute infinatly complex programs. What if it were possible to build a 'robotic computational entity' embryo that that has the ability to harvest space dust, gases and astral bodies. The entity would be able to evolve itself by producing processors, memory units and more robotic units to increase harvisting and manufacturing potential. The entity would have to be able to program itself using evolutional agorithms and it's purpose to write the most complex programs possible. Some problems for it to think about would be to write classes for atoms, protein, dna and planets Then you realese it into space and wait for it to eventualy consume the entirety of our universe and simulate another one.
  3. How are emotions and brain wave emissions related, I would guess the emotion is a result of a set of very personal brain functions, and the EMs a result of a bunch of synapitc chemistry. If so how can the recorded waves induce or enhance brain chemistry. Wouldn't different people require a different set of brain functions to obtain a similar emotion, hense different wave patterns? May be abit off topic but it amazes me how light and sound waves can be used to convey emotions. At concerts perhaps the fact that there are many people experiencing the same emotion can heighten the experience. I have also known straight people who felt as if they have taken LSD while in the middle of a lysergic party(probably unknowingly swaged from the wrong cup:-).
  4. I thimk it would still stand: it stands cos the force is being thrown perpendicular to the axis equally in all directions so having 2 spheres spining in opposite directions should still have the same effect, only stronger.
  5. I can't see why not, but have read somewhere that you must neutralize the acetic with sodium hydroxide then distill the sodium acetate with sulphuric acid.
  6. Can you distill acetic acid with a fractioning column?
  7. I may be wrong i am noob but i think Acids combine with alkali metals to create a metalic salt in this case ca chloride if you cool or evaporate the solution you might be left with zinc chloride. Zn + HCl -> ZnCl + H I dont know why it would be purple. Depending on reactivity series i think salts will react with acids and the metal may displace hydrogen in the acid to make a new salt and acid i.e H2SO4 + 2NaCl -> 2HCl + Na2SO4
  8. thanks, what equations can be used to calculate the current produced?
  9. I like carrots so maybe that's why i said carrot. A mate used to jibe me calling me a carrot cos i was vegie, not a parsnip of broccoli! maybe carrots are the most popular vegtable, they are cetainly one of the most snazzy looking vegtables about plus they are nice. My dad said marrow, but thats a fruit so doen't count. could it be because it has 6 letters?
  10. Can somebody help me understand the various parameters of and their effect upon the power generated by an altenator. I would like to experiment with them, but have some idea of how various designs will produce electicity before I start building stuff. I am guessing the strength of the magnets, their distance to the coil and the length of the coils will affect the power of the current and that the number of coils/magnets, the distance between each coil/magenet and the rpm of the system will affect frequency and voltage of the current but iam unsure. what about the numer of turns in the coils and diameter of the coil wire and the core material of the coils? I was also wondering about the air between the stator and magnets, would different gasses produce better / worst inductance? i wouldn't imagine it would but you never know.
  11. well thats the thing he's on about: http://www.esci.keele.ac.uk/geophysics/kage/ and the bizzare cables would be 100MB/s network cables. Your right it'd be crap for Quake3!
  12. Aye, have you heard of altnet? I can't recall the owner of the network, but it's packaged with freeware like gain and all that crap. It's processing time is sold for things like weather calculations and genome processing. Sounds pretty cool technology, and I guess it could be hacked! I might have a poke around with the exe, I wonder how the listening process differentiates between bonafide altnet instructions and hacker joe's sam file cracking.
  13. Ok i'll forget that one! I guess locally it could be applied. The stats would still be interesting to look at if anyone knows where I could obtain them. I have found records from 1973.
  14. Quantum computing sounds amazing, beyond me but apparently it works and the supersition of a particle can be haressed to create massive computational power not just a load of parallel dimentions with a little of the solution in each!
  15. Yeah I was pretty sure about the overall power of the system. He implied that they work of each other almost like a P2P network, but I had also assumed one would be concerned with distributing instructions and retrieving the results. Also for what he described I would have thought the mboards would need some sort of hardware syncronisation and interfacing, as serial or parallel interfaces would be too slow and would require a software layer. It sounded good though!
  16. asexual wow! I guess you might distinguish between lust, and love. I believe in spiritual attraction; not physical or mental just right, as to why god knows. Maybe there is an inherrent impulse that attacts people with whom you are compatible and would make a good baby. Also there is the factor of survival, a partner that is strong or intelligent would be a safer bet than someone weak and insane, someone with a warm heart and good nature will make you and your offspring's life together alot more succesful. That said alot of women are more interested in the car you drive and men in a good pair of titties or a tight arse! I guess love has a purpose in our evolution as do hormones, but i think they are seperate and as we have evolved beyond pure animal instinct and physical strengh is no longer an important factor in our survival the animal side of our nature is diminishing. I fell for a girl, on first sight there was a wave of emotion and when we talked it was like no other conversation I had ever had, I almost wound up in tears due to the power of my feelings, I felt that our souls were just compatible (shame she had a bloke!) anyway I did not feel sexually turned on and would find it hard to imagine copulating with her.
  17. I bumped into an old mate in a pub, and he works in the field of micro-gravity geophysics. He was telling me about a super computer at his uni (keele), made using 64 standard motherboards and athlons with tons of bizare cables. He claimed that the result of this configuration gives a processing power of each cpu to the power of 64! I said surely it it will just run a program in at most a 64th of the time one processor will. But he seemed sure of his claim. Anyway has anyone a clue as to how the units would be wired together? He said the code that distributes the load is only a few lines long and the parallel nature of the system is transparent to the user, I guess it is hacked into the linux kernel at a very low level. But how on earth this has been done with standard motherboards is a mystery to me!
  18. sorry to be depressing and sorry to hear about your brother YT but can i pull the thread back to where it started, bull as it may be. I hear what your saying, but I would still expect to see a rise in cases since 1939 given that the 2000 odd test explosions conducted to date has apparently released more than 148 times the amount of radiation into Ghia than Chernobyl, the remnents of which is still detecible in north wales. On the other hand the amount of fags smoked by the population has declined greatly since that time which I would expect to decrease the number of throat/lung cancers. The number of cars on the road has also exploded which of course would have an effect. I guess the best option would be to try and identify the types of cancer associated with various carcinogens. Also maybe looking at local statistics say in New Mexico, Japan or Afghanistan would yield some sane results. Are there records of estimated global radiation levels? if so surely it has risen sharply with the invention of atomic power, wether it has come from bombs, satelites, meltdowns or badly disposed of X-Ray machines. I bet if plotted on a graphs patterns would emerge.
  19. Does anyone know where i can find cancer case stats since 1900? I wan't to plot the stats against nuclear tests carried out by various countries so it would also be useful to know how many curies are released, on average per Kt of atomic blast. It would be even better if you know of someone who has already done it!
  20. You could try getting a train ticket to llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch if you've got enough saliva to say it. In Welsh it means "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave". Interesting folk the welsh!
  21. I know if my son was chucking it about i'd be concerned.
  22. Geoff Hoon would eat it (unless he is a liar of course)
