A new spin on String Theory
dragonstar57 replied to Xero1of1's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
but if no strings have been destroyed are they in energy to? mass is converted into energy so unless strings were in energy wouldn't they be destroyed? i don't know if this is a stupid question because i know almost nothing about quantum mechanics. -
I don't know much about them except what i learned from power labs but i know they use electromagnets to accelerate a projectile. and that because there is no "burn rate" in theory the projectile should be able to reach the speed of light. but as in any experiential technology there must be a problem that is preventing it from being perfected so what is this problem and what are some ways that this could be solved in the future

it wouldn't be a weapon it would be a defense mechanistic. it wouldn't be designed for offense purposes. but a missile defense would be a terrifying technology because whats stooping nuclear war now is basically the old cold war policy MAD take that out of the picture by one country able to defend itself from nukes and shoot havoc would break loose. and if a 20 MW pulsed nitrogen laser was focussed to a very small beam diameter wouldn't it counteract the spreading of the beam

the government doesn't have to tell us about their experimental technology or ground breaking sciences. but if they don't keep us informed to some extant they would need to educate their new scientists and techs in advanced material before they could begin working. so how close does the tech and science available to civilians compare government tech. p.s i understand if this thread is moved to speculations but I think that it deserves to remain here. but should it be sent to speculations please don't close the topic to new replys

oh right but doesn't the theorized negative mass have negative gravity?? could this be used to make some kind of force field? like discussed in http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/51264-force-field-theory/ i don't see how EARTH could ever have negative gravity but doesn't it exist in theory?
-
that is kind of a force field but i'm talking about a force field that would deflect incoming projectiles and lasers.

how would one go about extracting citric acid from lemon juice, would distillation or Electrolysis work?
-
negative mass is a possibility and if it exists it would have negative gravity. and if this negative gravity could be made strong enough it could turn into something like a reverse dark hole where not even light could reach its surface. this could then be ued as a forcefield. and word this be better than the plasma window mentioned here? http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/20408-force-fields-are-here/page__p__285484__hl__%2Bplasma+%2Bwindow__fromsearch__1#entry285484

I know a medium amount about Qbasic (outdated i know) but but i'm supposed to take classes in hs this upcoming year for visual basic

Real time AI = bad, Turn-based AI = Good, why?
dragonstar57 replied to dstebbins's topic in Computer Science
but how long until they can command real armies of their own??? -
what about someone looking for a position in a governmental security/intelligence agency would the PhD be a good or bad thing?

my hobby is cryptology and i would like to write a cipher and have a computer program encrypt and decrypt it. i have asked things about it on yahoo answers but i'm invariably told that people would not do my home work for me, let me be clear i'm not currently in a programing or cryptology class i am a hobbyist with an interest in the field

can it be done with something that isn't as valuable as silver?
-
every force has a opposite right? so it seams like there would be some kind of "repulsion gravity" maybe it would have something to do with the -mas I have heard about recently that some people think exist

faster than light travel is possible step 1 take 2 flashlights and hold them so their lights shine in opposite directions (like Darth mauls lightsaber) step 2 make the frame of reference of one of the photons leaving one of the flash lights step now look at the photon leaving the other flash light is is moving at 2x the speed of light away from your frame of reference but your idea is crazy not that i'm saying its wrong but its crazy and nonsensical

i don't think there will be any warfare in the future. eventually there will be a global democracy that is ... well global and there will be no one to fight but even if this happened i would still think a defense budget would be needed just in case

a shock wave is more like wind than sound and to get rid of a large asteroid we cold hit it with a chunk of antimatter = to half its mass
-
correct me if I am Wrong but the laser would loose no power the farer away the target is from the weapon in space so would a simple 20 MW pulsed nitrogen laser be enough to destroy a missile?
-
wouldn't the "antti-Graviton" from one interact with the Gravitons of its opposite ? and create a no gravity field?

Asteroid 'gives Earth a close shave' on Monday
dragonstar57 replied to DrDNA's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
I think the best way to defend against such NEOs would be this gravity is warping of space time right? so what if it could be warped in the opposite direction it would make a repulsion gravity ring/sphere around the earth yeah its a little off topic but i interpreted the topic as general neo detection/impact prevention -
it would need to be designed very careful to ensure that it does not hit a Pearson. not to mention that it would make high powered lasers 700 milliwatts commonplace and hard to control
-
it would have to go at least .25 the speed of light to go any place fast enough as for weapons rail guns would work well for space dust avoidance just shoot at it hard enough to make it fly out of your way

The Moon: Solving Earth's Energy Crisis
dragonstar57 replied to VedekPako's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
a solar power stations could be used to charge giant batteries and then fired at the earth on a rail gun i don't think it would be very efficient tho but the energy is badly needed for a solar colony EM radiation shield -
Is teleportation theoretically possible?
dragonstar57 replied to dstebbins's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
my quantum physics is not that good but i think it would need to somehow use entanglement. or one of the weird things that time/space does at the quantum level. either way it wont happen anytime soon. not to mention that society isn't ready for such a technology anyway could someone who has more quantum physics knowlage expand on this answer? -
in 1999 i saw a line of 4 lights in the sky. and if they were at aircraft cruising altitude then they were moving a at least Mach 5 because they went from horizon to horizon in about 15 seconds and in perfect formation. i don't know what it was but if it was swamp gas. why was it moving so fast? i don't think theres a cover up. but i do think the government is just not taking the the possibility of alien presence on earth seriously enough to look into it.
