  1. I am planning on making some electrolyte solution for an electroplating experinment. I have one question, How can I make copper sulfate, or a sulfate of any metal from simple household items?
  2. I have recently started very basic chemistry for a science club at my school. I was wondering if anyone has some tips on electroplating. Does anyone know of some good objects to electroplate with simple and common household items? Detailed reactions and procedures would be very helpful and appreciated. Online lab manuals may help.
  3. "Personally I wouldn't be that inclined to make babies with someone who constantly smelled of body odour, so I'm thinking there may be something in that (at least for humans)." Well, human release famamones through odor when wet, but when they dry they have an unpleasent odor
  4. Well I know its alittle late, but the final experiment was that I would see the relatianshio between th pH of water and the conditian and number of plants in certain areas of the nissiquague river (smithtown NY). Data will be posted in about a month on my science web site (which is not functianal at this time due to reconstruction and many AP projects).
  5. Hi everyone, I think i should get straigt to the point. Does anyone know: •Whare (a web site) I can find good images to use as backgrounds for a web site. It would be helpful if they were legaly downloadable? (I am thinking good grids, etc., I dont have the time to make them myself, I just like to code) PLEASE NO PLACES FOR CORNY SMILES OR FACES Thank You
  6. If the process of cloning was perfected, I still think it would be wrong to clone in excess. If you were to make clones of anyone, it would take away their individuality. We all need this, or our world would be a boring wasteland. However, if the process is not perfected, than I so not think at all, that the process is acceptable beause people may be cloned, and than mutated. A human should not be "mutated" or altered in any way without permition, you should not be made a human living experiment, unless it is volintary. At this point, though cloning of humans may be possible, it is very hazardess, so it may not be the best idea to make an army of duplicates. However, if we dont try now, we may never know the perfect way to clone. The only way to do this right is trial and error. Just my thaughts and philosophy.
  7. Not totally related, but in an environment whare air is 100% oxygen, a single spark would blow the whole place up! (Thats what happened on appolo). Well anyway, I have not readf p on this topic, but you do need to absorb other chemicals besides oxygen and is you are deprived of them, you may feel weak, dizzy, etc. Oxygen does however give lots of energy, I would imagine that cells could be poisoned (overstimulated maybe). Too much of anything could be bad, accept CASH hehehe
  8. Well, in terms of whats "alive" nothing is really, we are all just a bunch of chemicals and elements put together in a bag of blood and bones. It may be disturbing to think like that, but thats the way it is. Anyway, the simplest form of life I can think of is some form of monocellular life, such as bacteria, viruses, and other really tiny little thins. Good luck.
  9. Back to evolution... I am a great supporter of evolution, but I also accept creation. Many people that I know think that there was creation of the universe, and all galaxies. There for, from the creation of all of this "dust" planets, stars, etc. evolved. After this, On our little "home" earth, people could have evolved (yes, from chemicles. If you beleive that you came from a fertilized egg, than you can most certainly beleive that the first human like organisms started off as chemicals, and than became microorganisms, than people.). What I am trying to say is that the two theories can be combined, and that the big bang may have been started by a creator and that evolution is still correct, and maybe Adam and Eve were apes. Who knows? But anyway, the two theories can be equally respected, and marged. I hope someone is patient enough to read the last comment.
  10. I found a good book in the library about nocturnals an building them, it gave me just about everything i needed to know.
  11. •Does anyone know of a good website that has info on Nocturnals, and even a template for a nocturnal. •Does anyone know of a better, or good way of calculating time other than a Nocturnal, at night
  12. Well I just found out that my science teacher is giving us GMT (Greenwitch mean Time) so all we have to do is find our time in our "Zone" If Anyone Can Find A Better Device to make to find time, please tell me. Also, is there anyone that knows of good website for NOCTURNALS(The insatrument). Do NOT recomend building a clock. The bottem Line: What is a good instrument to use to tell time (at night) I have allready done research on a nocturnal, but if you have a good template site, your ideas are well accepted.
  13. believe me, I have searched google for long hours, it seems, however that all web sites say that a nocturnal, or astrolabe, or sextant can be used to find longitude, but they Never Say How!
  14. hmmm, well, if I use the time difference method, I could not build a clock, but I could make a sundial. I have heard that sundials need corrections for latitude, but, if they need corections for longitude, what if I could use the angle of correction on my clock to simulate a sundial in Greenwich, or would that all depend on my longitude anyway, and defeat the purpose? Anyone an expert on sundials?
  15. time piece wise, i really csnt do it, because i need to make the instrument. Anyone know much about the lunar distance method, links?
  16. no, sry, but I need to build something to find longitude, and I cant use prebuilt instruments.
  17. I have another project for science. I have a few unanswered questions as well. The object of this is to find a "Practical and easy ethical method of calculating longitude to the nearest 30 minuts!" Does anyone know of an easy way to find longitude?: •Does anyone know much about the lunar distance method? •What are some instruments that I can build to calculate longitude? •How can I use the instruments? I am open to many ideas of calculating longitude, but please do not recomend rebuilding H4 .
  18. Thank you for your help, with your information, I combined all of your ideas into one big experiment. Thanks everyone again
  19. Hello Everyone. I have to construct my own experiment for 9th grade science. It will take place on a canoe, or at least data will be gathered on a canoe. The subject can be anything in earth science, ecology, etc. So far, my idea is to test one type of plant for amounts of chemicles in them, if possible, and than test water around that plant. I can make inference like there is "salt" around a plant and it absorbed alot, if the plant is in good condition I could say its skill of dissolving "salt" is a good skill. I can do the same with many chemicles, and a plant in bad condition. By comparing all of the data I could see the relationship beetween water properties, and plkant condition. If you have an idea for anoyther experiment, or have additions to this one PLEASE POST. Thank You
