  1. would you be willing to share? pretty much all the cheap ones wont sell to individuals united nuclear is $47 for 5 grams +$30 hazmat
  2. ok so i have a chance to buy some potassium but in order to get a good deal i have to buy more then i need, so i was wondering if anyone here would be interested in buying some at $5 a gram, i have all the hazmat containers so that wont cost you extra just the actual cost to ship it let me know and please only serious people so i dont buy it and get stuck with lots of extra K im looking to sell about 20 grams. and if you buy all 20g i will pay shipping
  3. ok i just bout some amorphus boron for my element collection and the seller states its about 90-95% pure, the largest containment is magnesium (not sure if its metal or what compound) is there any way to up the purity of the boron. i know this is hard to answer since we dont know what the exact contaminants are but any assistance would be appreciated
  4. couldnt you just add an iron nail which would precipitate pure copper metal powder that could be dissolved back into nitric acid. i like the step where you precipitate the ekemental copper from the the CuCl solution so in the end you will have a solution of iron(ferric or ferrous.....i cant remember) chloride and copper metal next the metal goes into the nitric acid and he has the copper nitrate. so he gets his copper nitrate but he also has some of the iron chloride solution that might be useful down the road in a different experiment. when i did this i got some beautiful green crystals from the iron chloride solution after i evaporated the water im pretty sure it was IronII chloride/ferrous chloride because of the green crystals.....but i dont think i got all the HCL reacted since some of the crystals turned yellow which sounds like Iron III chloride/ferric chloride. so what solution is left over in the above post about using washing soda? is it sodium chloride? well if it were me i would rather have some iron chloride to hold onto incase i needed it, since NaCl is so easy to get there would be no reason to save it
  5. if your in the USA i have a pretty good source for nitric acid, sodium metal, lithium metal and plenty of others, if you have a question on a specific chemical please PM me and i will let you know. shipping is VERY reasonable he has a few hard to get elements including metallic Thallium plus most of the good potassium, sodium and ammonium compounds
  6. yea i put some naoh on a q-tip on dabed it on the really bad areas and then when i took a shower i took a pumice stone to it and got most of it off. one more treatment should get the majority of it off. thanks
  7. ok so i was making up a batch of AgNO3 or silver nitrate. well i was being very careful not to touch it, i wore gloves the entire time. so i was moving the container that had the AgNO3 (aq) and didnt have any gloves one since i had not planned on touching the silver nitrate because i was just moving ht container to a new location. when i put the juar in a bowl of hot water it broke and sure enough my hands have been stained with the silver nitrate, and i really need to get it off. i wait tables and cook at a restaurant....and my hands look filthy THINGS I ALREADY KNOW -the stain is permanent and only goes away when the old stained skin dies and the new fresh skin comes to the surface. - i know with time it will eventually go back to normal (i just would like to speed this up) - i know i cannot just clean it with any normal cleanser so what i would like to know is what can i do it speed up the process removing the old stained skin, I have tried sanding certain spots where the skin is thick but the results were marginal at best. plus i could only do it on areas that the skin is tough. for the softer skin areas i need to find a better method for "killing" the top layer of skin so fresh skin will come up so whats the easiest or least painful way to remove the "old" surface skin i know the best way is to let nature take it course and it will go away in time. i just need to speed it up as much as possible ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT! PLEASE HELP ME- no one wants a guy with hands that look like mine either cooking or serving their meal. so the longer this stain is on my hand the longer i have to deal with customers that will most likely tip less and some could even call the health department.....which is big headache once they get involved. -roger PLEASE HELP ME. oh and please save the "dont touch the AgNO3 and you wont have that problem" I KNOW THAT
  8. the steel wool method worked great for me. harbor fright tools has some thats pretty cheap
  9. yea im looking for pure elements not compunds/alloys. but thanks anyways and to everyone else i still need tellurium and boron
  10. well i can say i would be FAR more likely to "donate" a kidney if i were to get like 100k invest half into my retirement account and the other half towards a house. i think the minimum i would take would be in the 50k range. i dont see any reason to deny such a market, its a win win. patient gets kidney and i get compensated for taking the risks and pain involved. how would this be any different then the girls that "donate" their eggs for upwards of $5k? i have known several girls that have done that and i seriously doubt they would have done it if they weren't getting money out of it.
  11. i use an old laptop power supply that is 18v and about 5 amps. which is easy to get from a friend, also if you buy an external hard drive and take it apart and put the hardrive inside your computer you will have a left over power supply very similar to the lap top one. an old desktop power supply would probably work well also but they require some rewiring to get them to run outside of a computer. which can be dangerous if you dont know what your doing. however i dont know if these are optimum due to there high power consumption...its what i had so i used it you can buy a 6v lantern battery (carbon-zinc not alkaline) take it apart and you have 4 carbon electrodes in the center of each cell that already have a wire attached to it. i also dont think you need to get it fully saturated with an electrolyte either. unless im trying to create chlorine gas (using NaCl) then i just add a little bit someone else can probably clear up some of the gaps i left.... thats just the set up i came up with with what i had on hand. also keep in mind as your bottles fill up they will start to float and more gas will escape unless you have them held in place
  12. is there a different flash powder that would be more stable? but even then i would agree not to store it. its easy enough to mix on the spot a thing to keep in mind when storing a low explosives (when you NEED to)is to do it like how they store smokeless gunpowder. i reload ammo and the containers i buy my powder in are made to easily split in half and the cap is made to pop off easily in the event the powder ignited. this prevents the build up of pressure so you have a large flame instead of a bomb. I also keep my powder containers away from each other so if one did ignite then i would only have 1lb max instead 5-10lbs, it is also kept in places that a quick large flame would be less likely to cause a continual burn which could lead to burning my house down. but flash powder burns a LOT faster then smokeless powder so even if these steps were followed the outcome would be most likely be worse
  13. i would recomend buying it already ampuled instead of trying to do it yourself. i got mine from theodore gray that runs the www.periodictable.com site it was $50 total and i am very happy with it, he is a great guy and was a pleasure working with him his email is on his website somewhere also the link in the post above mine is a great company but IMO their hazmat charges are pretty high, for example i bought some hazmat stuff from united nuclear and their fee is only $30 for up to 3 hazmat items, where as metallium charges $70 for alkali metals. i got my sodium from a guy (pm if you want his email) , 500ml of nitric acid for $25 and lots of other fun chemicles that are hard to get and his shipping was only $15!!
  14. i had never thought of it like that before but it does seem very plausible. many of these people feel that if they dont follow the rules of god (their captor) they will be punished sounds cultish to me no offence to those people that belive, thats their right as it is mine to not to beleave
  15. i am VERY pleased to hear the the SCOTUS has overturned an out right ban on handguns in certain areas think of it this way if you were going to rob a group of people and you had a gun. would you choose the area that no one has means to defend themselves? or the group that some of the people might have guns to protect themselves? why are there shootings as schools or gun-free malls? because criminals know no-one will be armed? criminals dont care about the law (thats what makes them criminals) so if you institute a gun ban, only the law abiding people will turn in their guns....so only the criminals will have them (which by law you make everyone with a handgun a criminal) if a person is selling drugs and carries out murders really cares about a handgun ban? NO!! if i were a armed robber i would rob the store/mall whatever that i knew had a a bunch of unarmed people inside vs. a place the people are legally allowed to bring guns into. the risk of death or injury is much higher for the criminal in the place that law abiding people carry guns
  16. you get sodium hydroxide and H2 gas and Cl2 gas, the oxygen goes into the sodium hydroxide there is no sodium metal produced....even if there was it would react with the water creating....sodium hydroxide. you can add a little NaCl and still get some O2 but when you add more NaCl all or most of the oxygen goes into the sodium hydroxide
  17. if you add nitric acid wont you get a mix of nickle nitrate and nickle chloride? it does work with pure HCL it just takes a long time, i left mine to site for a few weeks and then finally the nickle was gone. . i just covered the jar with a "watch glass" that would let the H2 out so pressure wouldnt build up
  18. this is from wiki Liquid oxygen has a density of 1.141 g/cm3 (1.141 kg/L) and is cryogenic (freezing point: 50.5 K (−368.77 °F; −222.65 °C), boiling point: 90.19 K (−297.33 °F, −182.96 °C) at 101.325 kPa (760 mmHg). Liquid oxygen has an expansion ratio of 861:1 at 20 °C (68 °F) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_oxygen i was unable to find density of solid oxygen but i did find this in the wiki about liquid O2 Liquid oxygen has an expansion ratio of 861:1 at 20 °C (68 °F);[1][2] and because of this, it is used in some commercial and military aircraft as a source of breathing oxygen.
  19. the only time ive heard of that happening is because of a mix between a fast twist and speed. at the muzzle some bullets are going 300,000 RPM and if the bullet has a thin jacket it can literally tear itself apart. but i have never heard of a bullet mushrooming mid flight because of the air
  20. well that and the fact 22 hollow points suck at expanding this link below has lots of 22 ammo tested against ballistic gel they even have one where they test using the same gun i did but i didnt see the exact ammo i used http://www.brassfetcher.com/22LR.html Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedheres the link to the tests of 22lr ammo out of the same gun i used http://www.brassfetcher.com/WaltherP22test.html none of them expanded Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedplus mine went through a shoe first witch probably clogged the hollow point and thus preventing expansion. and the short distance it went through (like an 1" of flesh tops) it also hit a bone that could have pinched the hole shut. plus i dont even know if it did expand since i couldnt find the bullet. but since the exit wound is only.25" i dont think it did
  21. you are correct they need water or some similar liquid and since liquids dont compress it forces the bullet to mushroom out. but 22lr hollow points suck, they usually dont expand much if at all. the hole is just too small Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged nope you are right. in most ballistic gel tests they dont expand. and if they do it is very little.
  22. thank you! i am continuing to take pics but im going to wait and do a video instead of posting daily pics. well went to the doc today took another xray and the bone has actually more damaged then the day it happened. so i have to be on crutches for 2 weeks and will go in for another xray to see how its healing. even though it was just a 22lr out of a pistol they said i was very lucky to have as little damage as i do. its a good thing the hollow point didnt cause it to mushroom or the bullet didnt tumble i have lost feeling to the top of my toe but they arent sure if its going to be permanent
