  1. I would agree. I have gotten 5 color blind people to see color that they can not see. One case was a young man who was blue-yellow color blind from an accident when he was 10. Eight years later by flashing a spinning disk under a standard florescent lighting system he saw blue again. He had not seen the color blue for eight years but remember it. I agree that learning and evironment plays a major role in perception.

  3. If you mean in the cortex then this is not a good way to think about it at all. there is no-one in there to see the monitor. I thought that this metaphor was to be discouraged. Why do we observe an average firing frequency of 10 hertz for motor movement? Why do we observe an average firing frequency of 8 hertz for long term memory retrival? Why do nerve cells in the hearing system fire if the move in a liquid? Why do nerve cels fire in the olfactory system if a particular shaped molecule goes in and out a small hole structure in the nerve cell like a key - lock system? Why do nerve cels fire in balance system when rock fall on them as we move our heads?
  5. Pain can have a real begining neurologically. Pain also has psychological components. For example if you are busy you do not have time to feel the pain. It is comon in combat to be shot and not know it because you are so busy fighting that you do not feel the pain. Pain is also learned by social definition. People going through initiation ceremonies can translate the stimulation as pleasure, because they are successfully paying the price to be man. Pain can generate pleasure as an opponent-process. The pain of running can result in a powerful high, addicting you to running. Nerve cells can transmit more than one transmitter at a time. This means that the beginning of the stimulus is not its end since there is global processing at all times. For example if you numb the nerves for the tongue, the psychological report for sweet will double in reported intensity when in fact it can only be one half. Are we jealous because we are jealous? No we are jealous because we have interpreted a physicial response that we are feeling is a particular emotion. That interpretation is due to our weighted history of the past and social referencing. If pure telepathy existed it would be a genetic advantage and would quickly become a common genetic trait in the human population.   16. Physically speaking the optical effect of increased in size when the moon approaches the horizon is very minor compared to the psychological effect. It is not likely the average person could tell that the size increased due to the real optical effect due to changes in wave length of the light. The psychological effect is due to referencing. All information is correlated and cross connected. We have good information about the distance to the horizon, but not the moon. When we compare the visual information we know the moon is further away that we had originally thought so we adjust the size for that distance and thereby increase its size. A F-84 fighter pilot reported that he was being pursued by a long cigar space ship and that it was going to ram him so he was going to bail out. A wise move considering the flight characteristic of a F-84 after a minor collision. Well as it turned out his fountain pen had floated out of his pocket during a dive and he perceived it as a large cigar shaped space ship. He correctly identified the object when the slide project projecting the picture on a screen if it was out of focus.
