  1. let me show some more of my work and what equations i used:

    for kinetic energy of an ideal gas = (3/2) * R * T

where R is the gas constant (8.314) and T is temp in K

take that number and divide by avogadro's number to get per atom

    energy of an orbital of H = R(sub h) * (h/n^2)

    where R(sub h) is the Rydberg constant (3.290 x 10^15), h is planck's constant (6.626 x 10^-34) and n is the energy state.

  2. ok, kinda a new question here, more of an interpretation:

    If i said that:

    (Kinetic Energy of a H atom at 300K) / ((orbital energy of H at n)(n^2)) = a constant, .0028499

    for any n value

    and then

    (Kinetic Energy of a H atom at 200K) / ((orbital energy of H at n)(n^2)) = a constant, .001899948

    for any n value

and the on top of that:

    200 * .0028499 = .56998

    300 * .001899948 = .56998

Notice I'm multiplying Temp (200) with constant that was derived by using temp as 300 and vice versa for the other one.

Does this mean anything? It would be better to elimate the certain temp and be able to use a variable of some sort to make it work for all cases. But does this mean anything? Basically i started out trying to relate the kinetic energy of a H atom with the energy of its orbitals, and since kinetic energy is based on temperature only (for gases) then does the temp affect the orbital energy?

  3. Rolle's theorem as stated:

let f be continuous on the closed interval [a,b] and differentiable on the open interval (a,b). If f(a)=f(b) then there is at least one number c in (a,b) such that f'©=0.

Let's say f(a) does not equal f(b), but there are two other points d and e within the interval (a,b) such that f(d)=f(e). Can Rolle's Theorem be used/defined that way?

This is a calc 1 class, so if you could keep your answers within that realm, i'd appreciate it. Thanks!

  4. no, i don't think i could be a doctor, im not too good around blood and guts.

I have actually seen a lot of the world, my dad loves to travel. I've all over the US, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England(mainly London), little of Austria, and Vancoover, Canada.

Now you're probably saying, wow he must be rich, why does he need scholarships to go to school. Actually, my dad is a small farmer and money isn't the most excessive thing around here. Pretty much all our airfare was free(parents and 2 brothers). Just some cases of luck with taking bumps on flights can help.

I do plan to travel when i get older, and would love to go back to anywhere that i've already been, espicially with a family.

  5. Well, i go to a small school, high school has about 300 kids max. I've been taking about every class offered. So far i have:

    Algebra 1 and 2

    Geometry

I'm in Trig right now and plan to take Precalc next year

A lot of schools offer precalc as a jr. and calc as a sr. but ours doesn't.

I will have 4 years of english, and like 3.5 years of Social Science. I have 2 years of computers(keyboarding and a year of basic computer programming)

I've had biology, chemistry, Im in advanced Chem right now and plan on taking physics next year. Our school offers one architechual drawing class, which i think i'll take next year too.

Im also in Spanish 1 this year, and will take Spanish 2 next year possibly, depends if it is required for college entrance. Right now i have a 4.0 and at the top of my class of around 70. Im not the smartest out there, the UNL math day is Nov 14, and im on our math team, so it'll be interesting to see how i do there. I know i won't be up there with some of the kids.

Any other thoughts and info is welcomed. Thanks again.

  6. Hey guys, i've started thinking seriously about where i want to go to school and how to get there. Im looking to go into engineering, anyone know of any good scholarships out there for that? Im in Nebraska, and i'm looking to go out of state if possible, but not too far from home. I was looking at Iowa State. Since there's a lot of people on here that are currently in college, thought i'd ask. What are some good tips to do in high school to help out with college/scholarship acceptance? I've taken the ACT once, last june, got a 29 on it. broke down to: eng: 22, reading: 28, math:32, sci: 34. Since that was after my Sophmore year, im looking for a few higher points, probably take it again in december. English is killing me, not a big fan of grammar. Any tips, scholarship info, or any other program information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  7. Aman,

Actually, i do live on a farm. My dad farms some land around here. We live a little west of little ol' auburn. We have plenty of barns and smells out here! We only have 2 stoplights too!! Im surprised you've heard about our school from academics. Right now our school district is in some money problems and no one will vote for the levy override, so some of our teachers have been laid off, extracurricular activities have been cut, some sports may even be cut too. It's pretty sad. But im a jr., so i won't have to stick around too much longer to worry about it. I'll have agree with you about the schools around here, it's nice to know everyone in your class. I've never been up in the Northeast corner, but might be headin up to Scribner sometime.

  8. bout the helicopter pad, i'd have to say it's for transporting people on and off the sub while it's at sea. Again, if you've seen Red October, has a scene where they try to get a guy on a sub while at sea, and it's no easy task. ( i know it's a movie, but the idea is all the same) all it would do is surface, land, drop off/take on, and take off. i'd say it's a good idea.

    blike,

the older ones are the best ones. i think the first 3 (well 2 so far) would be a lot more exciting if we didn't already know how it all ends.

  9. allright, thanks. i was thinking last night that it would almost have to have something to do with ions and magnetic fields of some sort. like electrically charging the water molecules and having something pull them to move the ship.
