  1. There may be pretty much life forms in the universe and not every must be necesseralli inteligentous. If we go to the molecular level they can be construct from other elements than me, the body have not be made from many cells, the basic macromolecules have not be DNA, lipids, sugars, proteins. I think these are basic questions for biologists, if thay want identify foreign life forms, the external appaerance is only result and it is not so crucial.
  2. Well, this is simple how they look like, cause if you assume that dinosaurs evolved to the intelligent "humanoid froms" and then leave our planet, and now they are coming back (as UFO) so we can see them and according to the descriptions (from witnesses) these aliens really look like humanoid dinosaurs (green men).
  3. Theres a fact, that before cambrian explosion all (or majority, simply this trend wasnt invented yet) animals didnt have exo or endosceleton so there is very poor record of fossils which have stayed preserved(and thus we are not so sure about richnes of life of these times). Also the exo and endosceleton is a one of the major causes which could participated to cambrian explosion.
  4. If it fan like structure keep spinning and that structure is made by cillia, it could be rotifers, the most smaller multicellular animals in the world. But i suggest it only from your description, from picture it is very hard to say what it is.
  5. Yeah 150 years, many things changed in this field over this time. Cyanobacters are clasified as one of the main groups of bacteries, have no nucleus and no membranous organelles thus are procaryotic(as all bacteries). But they have chlorophyl a, thats why they were supposed to be algae long time ago. Every lichen consists of mycobiont and fotobiont. Mycobiont means fungus and fotobiont alga or cyanobacter. Mycobiont is one species of fungus(the name of lichen depends on the species of fungus) which can live with one or two photobionts(every is one species). So it is not one organism but very well developed form of symbiosis of two or three organisms (fungus and one or two algae). Because mycobiont cannot live without photobiont they behave as single organism.
  6. As i know agar is polysacharid which is used as setting agent in culture mediums in microbiology. Microorganisms dont decompose them - that should be one characteristic you need. To set medium need concentration about one to 3%. Hope this little help.
  7. Dak wrote Cyanobacters are procaryotic thus not protists . Protists are eucaryotic unicellular organisms. Also i dont think that symbiosis of fungi with algae or with cyanobacters complicate something cause fungi in lichens still belongs to subdivisions of division eumycota which belongs to kingdom -fungi- for example they can belongs to subdivision ascomycetes (the most often case) or basidiomycetes. Lichenism is only very well developed symbyosis, it is not the one organism. About slime moulds - they are classified either protists or as the second division of kingdom fungi - myxomycota. (the first as i said is eumycota)
  8. Fungi are all eucaryotes, it means they have DNA in nucleus, and have membranous organelles in the cell like endoplasmic reticulum, golgi aparatus, lysosomes, mitochondrias etc.. They are saprofytic which means they decompose organic compounds to a smaller compounds (inorganic compounds) so they are heterotrophic (thus they no have chloroplasts) they play role in ecosystem as reducers. There are very similar organisms in procaryotes which are called actinomycetes. But these are classified as bacteries.
