  1. Hm, interesting. (Hey, this topic actually went somewhere. Cool. )
  2. Yes, very true. I thought salt didn't evaporate because it doesn't actually dissolve in water? I was under the impression that only the water did the evaporating, leaving the rest to just sit there and be whatever it is.
  3. Yeah, I figured it would affect the global air currents. Also, I bet it would affect the amount of precipitation. Since salt water's warmer, it would likely evaporate easier, as well. If it were all fresh water, it would likely rain a lot less because not as much is evaporating.
  4. There has to be some kind of life somewhere. Out of all of the countless systems and planets, there has to be at least one that's also capable of supporting even the most primitive of life.
  5. I wasn't raised to fail... actually, I wish I was. Because being raised to do your absolute best at everything when you actually can't/don't care is a serious pain. I was raised to do things that I now have no beliefs in, so a boost of my own ambition will change that. I'll lose respect from my parents, but maybe they'll understand at some point. Ambition is usually a good thing to have. It can even allow you to differenciate from what you've been taught all your life.
  6. From a reproduction stand point, I think the males are the expendable ones because the females are the ones who really do the reproducing. One male can impregnate many females, where as a female can only be impregnated by one male at a time. So, if a society was cut down to like, 10:1 for females, the population could continue to grow rather rapidly, whereas if it were 10:1 for males, it could only grow as fast as the women could birth the children. Though, most societies value men above women for generally being the stronger sex, and the one to pass on the bloodline, honor and family name.
  7. 18, Male, Canada. (Honestly, I think Canada is too broad of a location. It's too huge.)
  8. It went a bit off, but his point was that people will end up abusing the ability to alter children, beyond what they decided on, or what's really legitimate. An analogy I'd make for that is like cheating in a video game. You know you can do it, but you set some limits to still have some challenge. But you ultimately end up sneaking in a couple helpful additions now and then when you know you shouldn't. So, the power has just been abused, for whatever reason.
  9. Partly, it would be interesting to be able to have your child be exactly what you want, but it's unfair to the child and I just don't think it's proper to be screwing with genetics on a whim. Besides, if we thought we had problems with stupid parents now, think about how many people would be having kids so they could make them look like people. All of those Elvis Sighting Societies would be more pointless! World Records would become contests of who can outdo the other on making a superior child without having to train them. And we'd have people making anime-based children. I couldn't deal with Inuyasha clones covorting about. And think about the defects. "Oops, we botched your kid. Just go make another. We'll dispose of this one."
  10. Theoretically, what would the effects of an all-fresh-water world be, besides the obvious effects on aquatic life forms? How would the atmosphere be affected, and various other systems, be changed? As far as I can tell, the oceans: - Will be colder because salt water holds heat better - Will be harder to float in because of a lower TDS - Will be able to support larger creatures because of a higher DO content, since cold water holds oxygen better
