This might be a silly question but, does the body consume energy in the process of maintaining pH?
I was reading about the so called "alkaline diet" and the misconception that different types of food changes the body's pH. I know that this is wildly untrue but, it made me wonder if there was a caloric benefit of eating alkaline or acidic foods. Can anyone more knowledgeable on the subject tell me if the body burn calories in the process of maintaining pH?
