  1. Whatever it is, that should not be use as a reason to discourage people from taking up career course related to Science subjects. Having a passion towards a topic that can stimulate thinking and logical sense a way of looking at things is definitely not a loss. I personally know a friend who is a Science (biology graduate) is now doing well with her own business providing consultancy on ISO certification and training programs.
  2. In the aquarium pets industry, it is very common to see breeders applying the practice of selective breeding to come with a species with desired characteristic. It is always of my view that doing this may actually cause more harm and the underlying results in the long run is that we could actually produce a species that will have all the negative traits combined together. I mean how would we know that the traits would be the one that could ensure their survival in the wild? Take for example fish with strong and bright colors like the swordtails. In the wild the same species actually have dull grey colors (Xiphophorus helleri) and because of that they were able to survive from predators. Looking the other way round, fish which are actually bred in aquariums with desired colors were sometimes released back into the wild and this will void the fish the chance to survive on their own. That’s why it is always my argument that even this applies to dogs and cats whereby certain characteristic were actually selected and determined by us. They don't have the natural traits that will enable them to survive on their own. What's your point of view regarding this?
  3. Somehow I have a feeling that artificially induced feeling involving chemical substances will lead to other health effects. Addiction is of course one of them but the impact in the long run have to be studied. On a different note however, we can actually exploit this to treat depression and to heal psychologically sensitive individuals.
  4. Proteins can also be produced en mass using bacteria and after that basically you can use HPLC to segregate out the protein for analysis. However, do take note that protein is very sensitive to denaturation and care must be taken to preserve it.
  5. The question on whether we want to use it or not depends mostly on feasibility on manufacturing cost to produce the cars. I believe if this factor is taken away, most likely it's possible to see green cars making its way to the market.
