  1. that would be hard to say because there are different kinds of chrome

the kit i use, has three steps first you coat it in copper, then nickel, and then chrome it.

then there is hard chrome wich is just a single layer of chrome on polished metal

this is just a guess mind you but i would say chrome is not transparent/translucent to uv or ir. its the same as a mirror but with steel your temprature range will be different so the image might not get distorted as much depending on the tinsel strength of the steel (anyway there are always so many variables if you ask me try the cheapest way first and then improve on that thats what i do :) )

  2. im not sure about gold leaf but you would probably be better off getting the dish chromed, it wouldent cost that much, depending on where u lived. they also sell 5 gal trpiplechrome kits at caswell plating " http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/index.html?source=overture&OVRAW=caswell&OVKEY=caswell&OVMTC=standard ".

im almost positive chrome would produce a better image quality than aluminum foil or gold leaf

well scratch the triple chrome kit lol, or any of them they cost twice as much as a prebuilt hologram dish, but i left the link up anyway because they have good deals on powder coating and black krome kits. just in case any 1 is into do it yourself parts :)

  3. use platinum for the electrodes you will get the best response.

and if your aying "yea right platinum i cant afford that"

well just fyi you can go down to the autoparts store and but some bosh platinum spark plugs carfully smash the cramic coating and pull out the platinum :)

i used this method to show my son electrolsis of cource if you want a bigger H production you can also use carbon rods out of batteries.

because platinum is too expensive :)

i usedthe ones from the sparkplugs on a small scale model but it worked great

  4. hi i am drzzit,

i am currently a mechanic at a potash mine

i also serve as the backup mechanical and electrical engineer (fyi engineering in a mine is B.S.) they just want the tons they dont carte how or why if bubble gum works use it lol

other than that i love all different fields of science

  5. a lil bit off topic here.

has anyone seen any specs on the new blueray lazer ?

i know its supposed to blow the standard dvd away in storage media capacity

and ive also heard they are having a hard time stabilizing the element that emits the blue lazer beam

o btw i guess i should not have said new :) because i dont really have enough knoledge about to say if it is new or not, please excuse my arrogance

  6. if you can insulate the shed handles you could also hook up some hot wire.

my dad has one for horses that runs on 4 d-cell batteries and it shocks the hell outa you.

just wire it in the same circut as the send button and put a nice sponge or some other type of moisture holding matwhere the victim will be standing

then you get to listen too them scream when they touch it :)

of course its non leathel though

if your really hardcore buy a tazer and do the same thing ehehehe.

  7. ok i seen some 1 selling plans for an ion gun that can pop ballons at a 8' range

i love trying electronics projects but this one seems a little far fetched.

does any 1 have any experience with this type of application

    and any links if possible

  8. first off sorry about the spelling.

    secondly

i have been wanting to purchase or build a telescope, my son is getting old enough to enjoy looking through one, im not into space photography to much.

i like it an all but it is just too expensive

so i would like to hear your opinions. me i personally want a dobsonian becuase i like to view deep space entities.

    and because a 12" schmiddt is like 8-14k $$$

but without price in mind let me know what you think :)
