  1. So the holes being opened actually causes less resistance of movement within the chamber, which speeds up the cycle. Nice!
  2. Yes, I think so. My main concern was figuring out how organs, whistles, and flutes make their sound, since they don't have any moving membranes like other instruments.
  3. I was pondering to myself one day "how does a flute work?". It bothered me because I knew that our voices and reed instruments work by vibrating quickly, which pushes the air, creating a pressure wave. This couldn't be the case with flutes because the mouthpiece does not move. All I could find was preschool explanations. I wanted the college professors explanation. So lacking any support from the internet, I devised a theory on how the sound is produced when a flute is blown. I am looking for opinions and constructive analysis. When a flautist blows over the hole just right, the hole disrupts the stream causing oscillating eddies. These eddies are the pressure wave. They bounce around against the walls, causing the air inside to vibrate at the frequency of these eddies. When a hole is opened, like when the flautist releases their finger, the resonant property of the air is reduced, raising the frequency. So how far off the mark do you suppose I am? I am no master in fluid dynamics, I just thought it would be fun to do some science: observe, collect data, use data to form a theory to explain a phenomenon.
  4. Also I noticed that strange used a mixture of metric and imperial units, which I think would mess up the formula. I am fairly certain that the formula is based on the metric system, as most scientific formulas are. It is rather troublesome being raised with the imperial system. I still haven't the slightest idea the length of a kilometer, or the weight of a kilogram, or even the difference of 1 degree Celsius.
  5. Sorry, I meant to say that the diameter was 8 feet, not radius, so 177,400lbs. He threw the Goron about 4 times it's length, so 32ft/0.98 seconds. 80,400kg × 10.5 m/s= 844,200 newtons of force on links body?

So here's a clip from The legend of Zelda: Twilight princess How heavy is the goron being thrown, assuming His weight is average rock density, and the radius of his curled up form is approximately 8ft. I tried multiple time to use the sphere volume formula to figure it out, but my latest attempt yielded only 380 lbs. That can't be right. Also, it might be fun to calculate the forces being applied to links body during the throw, once we know how much he's throwing.
