  1. That's really close. The glare and the unnatural light from the monitor is intense at that distance. I'm glad that taking breaks and turning on that light seems to help, but you aren't doing yourself any favors by sitting that close to a screen, and you'll probably have more subtle effects over the long run. I'm not an optician, and I'm not a gamer either, so I don't know all the conditions in the LAN center, but most of my income is dependent upon sitting at terminals, so I've had to learn what works for me just as a survival tactic to keep from getting headaches and glare. HTH.
  2. My dog and I developed a catch/tag/tug of war hybrid, where I'd throw a cloth frisbee, he'd catch it, etc., etc. It didn't take too long for him to figure out that I'm (a) slow, and (b) a klutz. So he decided that he could charge me with the frisbee in his mouth, flip the frisbee up in front of his eyes when he got close, and do a buttonhook around me. "See, I'm blindfolded, and you still can't catch me, you tomato can!" Ain't nothin' happy like a happy dog is happy.
  3. 8. Artillery fungus, aka shrapnel fungus. A couple of years ago, we started seeing spots on our mailbox and the front of our house: dark brown, impossible to scrape off. One day a car parked in our driveway got nailed. We finally called the Connecticut agricultural extension; the guy chuckled and asked us what we were doing for a lawn. Sure enough, we don't have a lawn; we have bark mulch with junipers and annuals. As the bark mulch got old, it became an ideal host. Artillery fungus shoots spore sacs at bright or light-colored objects (such as cars). The sacs can stick to almost everything. I forget how we finally got it off the house, but it involved a few cans of paint.
