  1. :-)brother, i've read that metallic sulphates (like ferric sulphate above), at high temp give up metallic oxide and sulphur oxides. thus, i suppose that the reaction you fear of, might not take place in the forward side. dont know whether the original reaction might take place. why dont you check out the electochemical series to get a better combo?? you might land into something which is more sure.. reply if you get something from there. toodles..
  2. hello! SiCl4 reacts with water but CCl4 doesn't. why is this so? is it because Si has empty d orbitals? but then, could someone let me know that after O attacks a d orb, why does an sp3 orb's Cl leave? please explain the mechanism in a bit detail... thanks in advance. waiting in anticipation.. :-)
  3. but what could be a ' matter-ial' source of positron rays? what kind of a 'matter-ial' gun would eject them? even the air particles coming in contact of those rays would create very good heat!!
  4. could one please let me know how we write the equation of a conic passing thru two conics? for egs., the equation of a circle 'S' passing thru the points of intersetion of two circles S1 & S2 is 'S= S1+$S2' can we use this even for parabola and other conics? if no, then what is the general form of the above equation? please let me know the meaning of all the unfamiliar signs you use. and also the concept behind it. please help me.. thanks in advance.
  5. thanks very much for your help. i didn't know anything about that acid. and don't you worry, i'm just a high school student, preparing for the iit jee 2009; i won't think of dealing with such dangerous stuff. by the way, do there exist stuffs like 'super bases'? could you name a few? and could you please let me know about some more unconventional reagents, or links to places where i could get something? that would be a very great help.
  6. i came acroos a reaction of phenol with Br2 in the presencs of HSbF6. the answer was m-bromophenol. could someone explain me the mechanism? please? also, could anyone tell me the properties of this reagent? and about any similar reagents? please help me out...
