I admire that you push the balloon hypothesis. It does make me re-think this occurrence, though I'm still not convinced. It was not a windy day (at ground level anyway). It would have taken quite a light bulb (and energy source) for it to glow with such intensity on that bright sunny day. A car headlight beam would pale by comparison. BTW, this took place in a residential area. I have seen weather balloons, hot air balloons, blimps, and many aircraft both military and civilian. I never mistook any of them to be anything strange. It's like saying it could have been the moon. I've seen the moon perhaps thousands of times and never mistook it for anything else. If what I saw looked like an elephant, then I would now be insisting that I saw a floating elephant that glowed. LOL Also, it looked to be a perfect sphere and was low enough that I would have seen much detail had it been a balloon. Instead, it had a hazy glow surrounding it that made seeing fine detail almost impossible to the naked eye. When I was in the military my co-workers and I didn't doubt each others findings but higher ups did. One time I detected several Russian planes in the middle of a NATO Operation. Higher authority pointed out that some NATO planes were pretending to be Russian planes. I said that I was aware of that and could tell the difference. I insisted that I detected and ID'd REAL ones. They did a fly by and confirmed my identifications. The Russian planes immediately bugged out and accidentally flew into Swiss territory. There's a difference in what one experiences himself and that which is told to him. Kind of like, "I won't believe it until I see it myself." Nevertheless, I must add, that I have read stories and seen video of objects that seem hard to explain. At 16, I wasn't at all interested in UFOs. I didn't know about glowing orbs until I saw one. And to anyone that may be reading this, I'm not implying that the object was of another world. I'm saying that I can't identify it with my limited knowledge. Sisyphus, I'm not dismissing your balloon hypothesis, but I'm not comfortable with it. I suppose it will always remain a mystery to me unless someone steps forward and says, "Yes, I know what it is. I helped make those things."

Later I realized that you weren't directing that at me, but I had already posted. No, it really wasn't a balloon. I understand why you may think it a possibility. I guess like many things, you had to be there. The sun was shining behind and to the upper left of the object. I was standing barely in the shade of a tree looking up. The sun would have reflected on the left of the object from my perspective. That wasn't the case because the whole object glowed brightly. Gravity pulls objects downward at the same force regardless of their mass. This object exhibited the characteristics of an object with a propulsion, maintaining the same altitude and speed at all times. A light object as a balloon filled with a lighter-than-air gas would not likely maintain a rock steady and smooth course as it did; the slightest air current would push it around. Also, bear in mind how close the object was to the ground. I got a very clear look at it, though it had very few discernible features. It had a hazy glow around it. And, the fact that it disappeared from view by trees prove just how low the object was. The height can be calculated using trigonometry, since I know the other distances. Don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but I have done calculations and analyzed this thoroughly. Of course, here, I can only hi-light some of my conclusions. If I thought for a moment it could have been a balloon, I would never have posted. And if you could prove to me that it was a balloon, I would be happy to have it solved. I agree, in general, with the comments by Sisyphus; however, I don't think it applies in my case. I was an A student, National Honor Society member, didn't use drugs, a keen observer with an analytical mind, and not one to give in to delusion or hallucination. In fact, later in the military, I used those skills to analyze and identify objects. (for ex. missle, aircraft, Russian, NATO?) No, it wasn't a balloon. The object was not far off in the distance, but almost directly above me, about 80 degrees (90 being straight above). It was a perfect sphere with no protrusions of any kind and left no trail. It was a glowing light-blue and easy to discern even with the blue sky background. It flew a straight horizontal course at a constant speed and did not bounce up or down. It had to have a means of propulsion and was guided by some intelligence. Think about the laws of physics and you will come to the same conclusions. The only question is whether I'm lying or perhaps delusional. If I were delusional I don't think I would have had a Secret Clearance in the military later, and I would never lie about such a thing. I've since read many stories about UFOs and I hate hoaxes. BTW, I did see virtually the same object on a TV show once, possibly the show "In Search Of." In the video the blue spherical object was flying at either dusk or dawn over some trees. It was taken from a profile view perhaps from a hundred feet away. I was born in Dayton, Ohio and have visited Wight-Patterson AFB several times, but just briefly on official business. I talked with someone that told me that there were tests going on around that time period at Wright-Patt, but I don't know how reliable that information is. The swallows comment is hilarious, I like that. But on a serious note, does anyone know what this was or have possible explanations? Possible recon device? I guess what I really want to know is the origin of the object. I don't really believe in aliens or mysterious life forms and I know it wasn't celestial at 100 feet in altitude. So, I guess I really have most of the answer by the process of elimination. I guess those that know exactly what is was can't divulge that information. Thanks again.

Hi. First of all let me say that I've only had a few out-of-the-ordinary experiences in my life. I posted one about awake and still dreaming. Since I'm here, I may as well post this one too. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far,...wait wrong story. Actually, when I was 16 years old on a sunny day in June, I saw an object in the sky. I was standing near the edge of the road while my brother was on the porch talking to friends. I was near a tree and was staring at a jet make trails in the sky. Then something to my left caught my attention. A large blue sphere was flying along horizontally and heading toward the center of town. It made no noise and disappeared from view as it went over the trees the next block over. I won't give all details unless someone asks. I estimate it was traveling 20 to 25 miles an hour. Low to the ground, maybe about 100 feet high, and headed toward Dayton, Ohio. Size is hard to estimate, but I remember thinking it was probably about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. I called to my brother and pointed and he too saw it for a few seconds. I have seen natural phenomena like meteor showers, a water spout, helicopters in formation, military jets with afterburner blazing, but never again anything like this again. This is no joke. Has anyone really seen flying objects close up like this? If anyone can explain what this was, I'd like to hear it. Thanks.

Hi. I once woke up from a nightmare and then I saw something in the corner of my room. At first I thought someone was there, but then I realized I was seeing my dream continuing. It looked 3D like a hologram. My dream took place at night so I couldn't see any color except a greenish tint from the moon. I looked around my room, and the dream didn't follow. I looked back where I saw it, and it was still there. I watched it for a while, closed my eyes, and when i opened them it was gone this time. What a relief. I got up, got something to drink and sat on my couch thinking how this could really happen. I really was fully awake; I know the difference. Anyone ever experience this or know what cause it?
