  2. Heya everyone This year I have to do a physics investigation for coursework for the OCR "Advancing Physics" course. It has to be a unique investigation just based on something of our choice, not just a typical school experiment, but I really can't think of anything exciting that is faesible with our school's resources. If anyone could give me any suggestions that would be really appreciated. I'd really like to do something on electricity or magnetism or possibly optics. The standard is one year before degree level, so it doesn't really need to be that complex. Some of the examples they gave were pretty lame, like measuring the strength of human hair, but I'd like to do something more interesting and less linear than that. Thanks.

    It stands for orders, as in the exponential degree to which a number is raised. Basically means powers, but BPDMAS is a crap acronym. I don't know why you'd be taught that it meant "of" as fractions are just divides and I don't see why they would have priority over other divisions, or why they would even be treated separately

I'm not sure how you managed to get 6.4mmol per litre, but Ok so is 0.0035mmol in 5ml, meaning that in every ml there is 0.0007mmol or 0.7mmol/L From the top.. 0.000025L Na solution * 140mmol/L = 0.0035mmol Na 0.0035mmol Na divided between a 0.005L solution = 0.7mmol/L Not sure where 70mmol/L comes from, but it's 3 orders of magnitude bigger so I imagine there is some inaccuracy in your write-out between mmol and mol or L and ml

Atomic clocks measure oscillations in atoms... if every fundamental particle is slowed down by the same amount, then it cannot be perceived as anything else than time slowing down, as our conception of time is based on the speed which the earth orbits the sun, and therefore it is the rate of development of space. If everything is slowed down by the same amount of speed, then time is effectively slowed. It's true that conditions could affect radioactive decay, but the way any clock system is slowed by the same percentage suggests it is not just outside conditions. More definitive, the fact that light travels relative to an observer at the same speed no matter what speed that observer is travelling at.. the only real way to explain that is time slowing down, when there is a 3rd party involved and the observer's speed and distance relative to this 3rd party are measureable. The clocks are in their own independant time frame as always, which happens to progress at the same speed as that of earth, as they are travelling at the same relative velocity and under the same gravitational influences, though could be considered "Behind" by an unchanging amount, as their time was slowed for the duration they spent in orbit
