  1. Okay, 1. Its okay that you wanted to get far ahead, but the whole point was to go a little at a time so everyone had a chance to have fun at it. 2. You could always go back and edit your post and get rid of those. God knows all of us have made one stupid error at one point or another so don't feel to bad about it. 3. I think its questionable because its not a very standard or commonly used function, kind of like the greatest integer function. If we used that it'd be easier to do a lot of the numbers, but it takes away the fun. 4. Maybe you should just delete the majority of your post (since most are wrong due to thinking 4^3=128 anyway), and when we get to a number you know jump on it (like 120 or 124). We all really should be going 1 at a time, but alas we all (including myself) have fallen pray to doing 2 or 3 at once. It's okay though, no need to keep apologizing, we understand that you weren't trying to be offensive in any way. 5. I think the only reason the squareroot of a number could be allowed is because the radical sign which is used has no other numbers included. If you wanted to take the cuberoot of a number then you'd have to include a 3 by the radical sign which would be cheating, but maybe if you said something like (4-4/4)th root, but that still may be pushing it. Overall I'm giving up altogether though. It was fun for a while but it lost its excitement. Oh well, have fun.

  4. Oh, I got it thanks to 573v3! cos(t)=sqrt(1-sin²(t)) so cos(t)=sqrt(1-x^4), meaning I was right! I'm a damn good guesser
  5. How's cos(t)=1-sin(t)? Example: [math]\cos{\frac{\pi}{6}}=\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}[/math], but [math]1-\sin{\frac{\pi}{6}}=.5[/math] cos(t)=sin(pi/2-t), but I don't see how that's much help
  6. The only problem is they wanted it completely in terms of x, so no theta's at all. Stupid multiple choice questions. The answer I ended up picking was something like [math]2x^2\sqrt{1-x^4}[/math], so I guess now all that I'm missing is a simplification for cos(t). I really wish my highschool had offered trig, but the closest I got was geometry with a Puertorican teacher who we couldn't understand.

    I just took the SAT Math 2 subject test Saturday, and the very last question was the only that I couldn't figure out, so I'm kind of curious how to do it. The question read if [math]\sin{\theta}=x^2[/math], then what does [math]\sin{2\theta}[/math] equal in terms of x? I've never been very good at trig, so I'm kind of interested in how to do it (and if it's something glaringly obvious I'm gonna feel like an idiot).

  19. Whatever you just did really is confusing. Here's how I did it: One of your points is (0, 2/3) so you know your y intercept is 2/3. The slope -2/5 is right, so I just plugged it into the equation y=mx+b and got: y=-2x/5+2/3 Then multiply both sides by 15 and get: 15y=-6x+10 Then just solve for zero, 6x+15y-10=0 Edit:Well Mobius found your error and explained it before me, oh well. At least I showed you another method to do it.
  20. Check your work again because I worked it out and got the books answer. But don't worry to much, a lot of the time the book can be wrong
