Importnat is not the best word, but it didn't sparked a revolution. I've read a book Philipp Lenard "Great Men of Science".

Who would you blame for the no progress / no science since the greeks until Renaissance, 1500 years ? I think we could have our modern society much earlier and be much more advanced today. I blame the church. I know it was something in arab world but not very important.

I agree, but some things are done by the logical progress of science like you mentioned, and very few are unexpected like x-rays that couldn't be made by someone else. That is the difference. Also Roetgen discovery was an inspiration to Marie Curie and Antoine Becquerel with radioactivity. I think all his peers envied him.

Nothing. I think Roetgen was the best of scientists that was awarded Nobel prize. Everybody knows x-rays.
