Topics I've Started

  1. Gravity Wells; The Perfect Medium For Life

    14 May 2012 - 06:05 PM

I would like to speculate that maybe black holes are, quite in contradiction to what we believe, highly supportive of life. Maybe it isn't the organic life as we know it, but something far more evolved and complex that we can't even imagine. I guess this is in some way an extension of my speculations as a child that in fact the sun is made up of a large collective of consciousness. Some of my reasons for my thoughts include:

    - an abundance of available resources

    - complex organization

    - constant consumption of more resources

    - natural defenses against external predators

    - possibility of inter well communication, maybe even travel

This is a very quick post, and I may have said something really stupid--aside from the obvious--so forgive me ahead of time . . . .
  2. Differential Forms as Matrices

    28 April 2012 - 07:12 AM

What are the more common theorems used to derive, for example a sphere in differential form, as a matrix representation? What are the more common expressions used to describe differential forms as matrices?
  3. Measure Theory

    17 April 2012 - 02:23 AM

What is the importance of measure theory, it is a branch that I've heard little about? Can anyone point me at the definitive text on its foundation?
  4. NSA New Security Center

    15 April 2012 - 11:30 PM

The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center (Watch What You Say)!

My economics teacher likes to think that he knows copious amounts of fine details when it comes to computing. He keeps going on about the NSA having one of only two terahertz computers in the world. This doesn't exactly mean much of anything, as far as I'm aware there still isn't at present a terahertz transistor to design a chip on.

So I decided to do a little research and it seems that the current standard in national security is the petaflop. Recent articles suggest however, that in fact there is currently a work in progress toward an exaflop security center, and this has generated some buzz. The fact that the NSA might be listening in on every phone call in the world is now at a peak of concern for those it matters to; like my teacher. I guess it would seem that he had at the very least one thing correct. Although, I doubt the NSA will be knocking at my door anytime soon for the crap that comes out of my mouth regular basis--but then again!
  5. Quantum Computational Chemistry

    7 April 2012 - 01:54 AM

I'm looking at completing my undergraduate as a double major in mathematics and computer science, but I want to do computational chemistry. The school offers a graduate degree in mathematics that specializes in scientific computing. From the perspective of a researcher would this be sufficient to publish papers in the field of quantum computational chemistry, or would I be looking at getting the second degree in chemistry or biochemistry as well?

Thanks zapatos . . . just to be clear my statement below isn't directly tied to anything said in any of those posts and is more a consequence of my experiences with how people in general approach what they consider moral values and how it can affect me personally. I have no contempt for any of the posters on the forum.

Hi my name is malicious and self-embittered, and I will be slapping around anyone who doesn't meet my approval today. What, you are defying The Laws? Off with your head! You had best read the book or between the lines my dear as surely you do not want to spend your life spat on by a good majority of the social public. Thank you for occupying space on my planet, please come again.

"a hippy?" .. well, if you think that you're a hipster.
Nope, I don't bring love. I just gave an advice as a friend.

Hey Xittenn, I have two words for you as a friend:
    1. Calm down
    2. Write what you really understand, not what you just know literally
    .. peace and love

Found the record. I didn't like you telling me to give up trying for something I wanted when I couldn't imagine you yourself giving up. You also seemed to find my struggle funny. I know it was only in fun.

I haven't been able to find a record of that particular string of comments. Using a limerick was probably meant to make any indication that I might have felt slightly uncomfortable a bit of a joke.

Not too sure how I should respond to comments on my profile - do I comment on my own profile or yours? Anyway to repeat on both - I forget why I wrote the limerick, probably because I thought you laughed at me rather than with me.

hey Xittenn, I'm playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 on PS3 .. It's really interesting you know,
It has the ideas of Quantum Theory, String Theory, Relativity Theory, in a game where
you can travel through Space-Time, where changes manipulate the flow of Time and Events

    | The two songs I most commonly find myself whistling:
    |
    | 1) victory song FFI
    |
    | 2) original Zelda theme song
    |
    | as I am walking down school halls, which must just be so weird; especially when I am wearing my Neo(Matrix) looking jacket and fuzzy boots. :/
