Just in time for May sweeps, ABC News' "Primetime Live" is working on a potentially explosive expose on the Fox phenom "American Idol."

Exact details of the report are still in flux, since Alphabet staffers are still in the process of reporting the story and vetting details. It's believed, however, that the report -- in the works for several months now -- will take a hard look at the relationship between "Idol" judges and contestants.

At the very least it seems to push back the current boundaries in the ongoing dilemma of news entities trying to report stories about the corporate giants that own them.

Oddly, Fox don't own Pop Idol they just broadcast it. Simon Fuller (produced the Spice Girls et al) and Simon Cowell own and distribute the programme, a ABC news report that Simon Cowell is a bad man isn't going to win the pulitzer.

Then there's the G Block on the FOX Report which reports how well American Idol did the previous day. FOX - You'll hear about our programming one way or another!

I have never even seen an episode of American Idol. Frankly, the premise of the show just doesn't appeal to me so I've never wasted my time on it no matter how much it's thrown in my face. :D
