I have a theory on pertaining to Dark Matter and that might have some merit. The document is available online at http://www.dynarama.com/Whirlpool Space-Time Distortion.doc

Whirlpool Space-Time Distortion: Another facet of General Relativity

Offering insight into the motions of massive spinning systems

The greater the mass and spin-speed of a system, the less its centripetal forces are oriented with respect to the universe as a whole. The fabric of space-time becomes more tightly coupled to a spinning body as the mass of the body increases, causing a whirlpool in the fabric of space-time. As space-time begins to spin with the body, the body becomes less oriented to the universe as a whole, canceling out centripetal forces that an outside observer would predict. This is observed in solar, galactic, and universal realms. Unlike an outside observer, those within a massive system will see the universe as spinning around them, as evidenced by the behavior of gyroscopes in our own Milky Way Galaxy. (The Universe appears to be spinning with respect to gyroscopes.) The cohesion of ultra-dense fast-spinning bodies such as pulsars and black holes might be better-explained by their relative space-time independence from the rest of the universe. The shape of spiral galaxies might be found to be affected by the process of assimilation of matter into the space-time whirlpool.

As with linear acceleration, the spin of mass creates a predictable distortion of space-time. We can observe these best in the extremes of speed and mass, such as in the acceleration of particles to near light-speed, or in the behavior of massive spinning bodies such as galaxies. From the frame of reference of the universe, the outer stars in spiral galaxies move at speeds too great to be held in place by the gravity of visible matter, but given the effect of Whirlpool Space-time Distortion, the stars of spiral galaxies are able to behave within the bounds of known laws of physics. The apparent flat spin of a galaxy, from its point of view and associated space-time, is not spinning at all, and generates no centripetal force associated with the spin that we see. It is likely that the centripetal force of spinning objects is transferred to the space-time fabric as the fabric synchronizes with the spinning body.

Dark Matter is a fudge factor used to explain the motion of massive systems without regard to the fluidity of space-time. It must be discarded, as with the Universal Constant and Steady State Theory, in order to better understand the dynamics of the universe we observe.

The link actually should include everything through the .doc extension. The text editor on this discussion group does not allow for spaces in the hyperlink.
