Integrated Information Theory

I read a theory by G. Tononi on how he uses mathematics to quantify conscious experience. We know that the brain is responsible for consciousness but how the physical brain gives rise to the conciousness is a bit of a challenge.

It has strong ties to the theory that consciousness arises from the integration and differentiation of information in the brain. It's a fascinating but heavy read.
