Running out of options (Python sendkeys Linux)

I've tried using subprocess Popen and PIPE but the '''keydown Shift_L''' only works once from what I see, same goes for '''keydown Shift_R'''

I've searched for xdotools, no luck

uinput - no luck

SendKeys- no luck

 

These things work fine on Windows with the win32api but I can't find a single useful resource here and I feel like I am running out of options. Does anyone know of one that will make it work?
