Why is it that you see a lot of drugs with hydrochloric or hydrobromic acid after their name, like Dextromethorphan HCl or something?

It makes the drugs MUCH more soluble in aqueous solutions, I.E. your body, so their absorption and effectiveness is MUCH greater than if it were the free base itself.
