Division VS Replication

Featured Replies

Do bacteria and viruses divide, or replicate?

Surely, if they are to divide, their total surface area / volume will never increase?

Bacteria grow and then divide. Viruses replicate by inserting their genetic material into a host cell and essentially turning that cell into a little virus factory.

Why wouldn't there ever be an increase in their surface area or volume? Bacteria eat things and can grow . . .
