How to determine diploid numbers in 2 crossed species?

Featured Replies

Hi! When crossing two separate species for example a 2n=12 and a 2n=28 how would I go about figuring out the diploid number in one of the progeny? Would it be 24 since 2n=12 can only pair with 12 of the 28 from 2n=28? And since there are 16 chromosomes from 2n=28 missing a pairing partner would the progeny be sterile?
