Hi, I need help with my chemistry homework. This has to do with chemical bonding. These are only some of the questions the teacher gave me.

Describe:

The force that bonds two hydrogen atoms in a hydrogen molecule, H2

The relationship between the bond energy of a molecule and its bond strength

Which is more stable, compounds with high bond energies or low bond energies

Given the following bond length:

Molecule

1. F2

2. Cl2

3. Br2

4. I2

Bond Length

1. 141 pm

2. 199 pm

3. 228 pm

4. 267 pm

Bond Energy

1. 156 KJ/mole

2. 243 KJ/mole

3. 193 KJ/mole

4. 151 KJ/mole

Explain the general trend that a bond length increases the bond energy decreases going from F2 to I2

Chorline has a longer bond length than fluorine yet it has a higher bond energy, why?

Given the following,

Molecule

1. H-F

2. H-Cl

3. H-Br

4. H-I

Bond Length

1. 92 pm

2. 127 pm

3. 141 pm

4. 161 pm

Bond Energy

1. 569 KJ/Mole

2. 432 KJ/Mole

3. 366 KJ/Mole

4. 299 KJ/Mole

The N-N and O-O single covalent bonds aremuch weaker than the C-C single covalent bond. Explain.

Which are more stable, compound with high bond energies or compounds with low bond energies?

I'll show the rest later.
