A theory for VR(virtual reality)

Now to start off i want to make it clear, that i am not an expert in this field i wont pretend that i know exactly what i am talking about. As i have said this is only a theory now, i was thinking about dream and how they can be manipulated if you so choose for example; before i go to sleep i could think of a magical rainbow land full of unicorns ha ha so that i would have a nice happy dream or i could think of a dark dense forest filled with monsters and other horrors and have a nightmare or i could just not be bothered and take a gamble on anything, the point is that dreams can be manipulated IF we so choose so that started to make me think why would it not be possible to be able to manipulate the dreams and create a sort of visual space inside your mind. now i would like you to bare with me as i explain this. Scientists say that dreams are a multitude of electrical impulses that show us our dreams, our hopes and our fears then translate's those into dreams we have as we sleep now when you think about that electrical impulses may be able to be intercepted and changed or altered would be a better word now when you combine this with other area's of the brain it may be possible to create this "virtual space" e.g. the area for virtual awareness, and then perhaps integrate it with the optical lobe so you can see inside this dream. But there would be a problem, how would you stop your body from actual moving in real life rather than only in your mind/virtual space, that would be the part i'm not sure on i suppose the only way i could think would be to intercept the electrical impulses going through the synapses that makes our body move at will and divert them back to the brain.

This is the concept i have thought of now as i said i am not an expert so if i have said any incorrect terms or have gotten anything wrong please do not hesitate to give me feedback and your idea's on this, as well on what you think i should do with this idea perhaps go to someone about it? Because at this moment in time i have no clue on what to do with this information.

thanks for your time.

Two things: since it's a science forum, it's almost an obligation to point out that the scientific definition of "theory" is different from its colloquial usage. A scientific theory is a powerful explanatory model with mountains of evidence supporting it. It's pretty much the pinnacle of science. The everyday use of the word is more akin to what science would call either a hypothesis or speculation depending on how it was formulated.

Also, you can already more or less do what you suggest. That's what dreaming is. If you're looking for more control and better awareness of what's happening, I'd look into lucid dreaming. It's possible to become aware that you're dreaming and take various levels of control from within the dream without waking up, and there are strategies people use to help them accomplish this on a more regular basis.

Just don't buy into all of the New Agey crap that tends to get attached to lucid dreaming by some people.

no no no no no that's the entire opposite of what i am trying to put across its different to dreaming have you never hear of the concept of virtual reality look it up how i am putting it is that you take advantage of the dreaming system and use it to create a sort of virtual environment

Just to clear it up the only link this has to dreams is that i you could take advantage of the system used to dream not actually control dreams fully i mean to use the dream system and to rework in a way that you can create a virtual environment.

Dreams feel real while we're in them.

It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange

-Inception

as much as i like the quote it's not fully about dreams it's about VR i know i mention dreams a lot in here but it's not that much of a discussion piece its the manipulation of it the side where you can change and adapt the system used for dreaming into a virtual space
