Nutritional Screening in Sickle Cell Disease

Featured Replies

I am a Clinical Nutritionist working in a Paediatric Hospital. I am in the process of devising a bi-annual nutritional assessment for my patients with Sickle Cell Disease and am looking for advice on what biochemical parameters to include. From reviewing the literature, it seems that the following vitamins, minerals and trace elements would be worth measuring: zinc, vitamin B6, folate, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D. Can anybody suggest any other parameters that might be worth investigating?

I also plan on recording weight and height centiles and z scores and possibly also mid-arm circumference. Are there other anthropometric indices I should consider?

Many thanks,

MOS
