Soft tissue calcification in the throat/ larynx region

In the case of soft tissue calcification of the throat or larynx, or calcification of cartilage such as thyroid cartilage, how long can one expect it to last?

 

i.e: is it a permanent, long lasting, or just temporary condition?

 

I came across it whilst doing some reading and my curiosity was stirred, but I cannot find an answer to my question anywhere.
