my question is how one could produce such an apparatus at home. the concept of making fullerenes fascinates me, although i really dont know what to do with regard to apparatus setup.

working from the bottom... (looking at this pic: http://www.lateralscience.co.uk/C60/C60pics/C60app.jpg )

 

take a flask and knock the bottom out for the bottom fire chamber

pop a brass tube over the neck of the flask

and then just some glass tubes of the correct diameter to fit in the brass tube

and the gold wire / wooden 'bone' thing well, gold wire and just a plank of wood will do!
