How does epistasis influence polymorphism?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm not a geneticist but I am in the process of writing a genetics paper so as you can imagine I have a few questions. I was wondering, is there a standard relationship between the number of epistatic interactions/inputs a gene has and the degree of polymorphism generally found at that locus? If a collection of genes are epistatically selected, does that mean they are a haplotype because they are in LD (I have a sinking feeling that I'm conflating these concepts)? How do haplotype frequencies affect frequencies of genes within that haplotype?

Apologies for the lack of structure, I'm not really sure what I'm trying to ask! :s
