Hydrofluoric Acid Fume Hood

Hello forums,

I'm new to this site, but I was wondering if some of you could shed some light on this problem I have.

I'm currently working with HF, but need to create a fume hood to ventilate it from the work area.

I've been trying to look up ways in which this can be done, but I've only come up with a lot of health and safety reports.

Many sites have lead me to look into such devices as fume scrubbers, picking tanks and other fume hoods, but don't explain how to construct one.

The amount of HF I'm working with is maybe a small beaker( <250ml) of this acid, so the apparatus doesn't need to be industrial in scale.

If possible, I'm trying to make it will items I can buy and assemble myself, but I might just have to buy a unit if needed.

Also if you have any information or know of how to do this process, any type of insight would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the specific concerns for fume hoods regarding HF, but if you do make a fume hood, I recommend using horizontal sashes because the vertical sashes are uncomfortable for many people to work under and because of the simplicity of horizontal sashes. I also recommend a constant air velocity system again because of its simplicity. I googled homemade "fume hood", and found lots of sites.
