What is a difference between Gateway and Router???

routers share out the internet connection, this packet to this IP etc

gateways are similar but i believe that they can be open / shut just like a gate! (seriously!) it is a network point that acts as an entrance to another network, such as the server through which people on a companys local area network (LAN) access the internet. (AOL could be called a gateway as it connects a computer to the internet.)

many people say they are the same things... but thats the slight differences.

what difference?

one shares out a connection and one is like a doorway or gate between two things allow them to connect... fractional differences!
