question about cancer treatment - dose conformity and homogeniety

Hello,

I am reading about cancer treatment and the use of electron therapy. In the book im reading it states that increasing the number of beam portals leads to an improvement in dose conformity and target dose homogeniety. Im having difficulty understanding this statement - what is a beam portal? what does dose conformity mean? and target dose homogeniety?
