Standard Operating Procedures

Featured Replies

I need to describe what a standard operating procedure is and what procedures it may involve.

Thankyou.

These are put in place in most labs and researchfacilities and written up so thatall students and staff follow them as part of the routine (ie how a task is tobe carried out and the correct way for disposal of waste and how to operate/ handle and maintain the equipment).

So what is the issue then? It seems that you understand it is an instruction manual of specific steps to be taken in performing a procedure. All that is left is to list all the tasks, place them in the correct order, check that the task list is complete and then add detail for each task so a lesser informed person can follow the task list and successfully perform the procedure.

... and behind the generation and upkeep of SOPs, you will find guidelines, authors, approvers, responsible authorities, regulators (eg, the FDA), review procedures (probably an SOP itself), review cycles, a history of revisions (electronic, microfiched and/or hardcopy), etc.
