\\Jonathan is not technically a directoy, although does exist.

 

go into IE or your equivilent and type \\albert, or whatever you set it as! im not sure what it is, maybe the computer name or something [this is on XP], its similar to typing \\your.ip.goes.here

whilsts it is not an actual directory, it does exist and will work for what you want to do, go onto word or some such, click save and type \\your.version.of.jonathan (albert or something) and it will take you to a directory. try it!

yes, but i post it because you could use that similar \\ command to make the boot.ini file loacte your external USB HDD, [which is on a port] as is the printer, even if you are not on a network, the port would still be located using a similar command.

 

use the \\ command over LANs and apparently over WANs, although i cant get it to work over a WAN, probably due to firewalls.

yes, but I found no porting of my external harddrive....

i think it will be hard locating the name of the port for you external HDD, its hard for me to help, as i cant find it, coz i dont have one!!!
