Amongst standard particles (not including Force Carrying bosons), only those with energy have mass (cf. photons), only those with mass have Electric Charge (cf. neutrinos), and only those with Electric Charge have Color Charge (cf. electrons).

 

If "mass" is some special sort of "energy", then perhaps "electric charge" is some special sort of "mass", and "color charge" is some special sort of "electric charge". This sounds somewhat like some sort of "evolutionary hierarchy".
