How is the pituitarygland linked to the kidney?

Featured Replies

how is the pituitary gland (which is part of the endocrine system) linked to the kidneys (which are part of the renal system)?

The very definition of "endocrine" means that the chemical produced (usually hormones) travels over a distance via the blood stream to produce an effect elsewhere in the body.

For example, the pituitary in the brain produces ADH, which travels via the bloodstream to the kidney's collecting ducts, where it causes increased re absorption of water in to the blood.
