Hi everyone,

 

basically, i m writing a report on a practical i did, and a bit confused on how to interpret the results.

 

We used glucose oxidase to determine the glucose in patient samples, glucose is converted in to glucuronic acid, and there is hydrogen peroxide generated as well, and this is reduced to water by another enzyme (horse radish peroxidase) and the oxidising power produced forms a pale purple colour. We added the enzyme in our plasma samples, and they formed this pale purple colour, and then we measured at 575 nm.

 

So does this indicate the presence of glucose in patient samples ?

If you are absolutely certain that there is no other source of glucuronic acid or hydrogen peroxide I would have thought so.

 

However, I can't really give you a better response because I don't know where this "pale purple colour" is coming from. What IS the purple colour? Do you have an indicator in there? What is it indicating the presence of specifically?
