Maximum work done in battery with emf of 1.4V

Featured Replies

What is the Maximum work done by a nickel-cadmium cell under standard conditions as 1 mol of Cd is used up and if the emf of the cell is 1.4V?

E=qV

if assume constant voltage 1.4V,

Cd + 2OH- --> Cd(OH)2 + 2e-;

1 mol Cd consumed,

E = (2)(96500)(1.4) = 270kJ
